3 He read from it before the wide place that was in front of the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand. The ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.And he read therein before the broad place that was before the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.그가 수문 앞 넓은 광장에서 새벽부터 한낮까지, 남자들과 여자들과 알아들을 만한 사람들 앞에서 율법책을 읽으니, 온 백성이 그 율법책에 귀를 기울였다.
4 Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.학자 에스라가 이 일을 위하여 만든 나무 강단 위에 섰고, 그 오른쪽에는 맛디댜와 스마와 아나야와 우리야와 힐기야와 마아세야가 서고, 그 왼쪽에는 브다야와 미사엘과 말기야와 하숨과 하스밧다나와 스가랴와 므술람이 섰다.

6 Then Ezra blessed Yahweh, the great God. All the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped Yahweh with their faces to the ground.And Ezra blessed Jehovah, the great God; and all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with the lifting up of their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped Jehovah with their faces to the ground.에스라가 위대하신 하나님 여호와를 송축하니, 온 백성이 손을 들고 "아멘, 아멘" 하고 화답하였다. 그리고 머리를 숙여 얼굴을 땅에 대고 여호와께 경배하였다.
7 Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law; and the people stayed in their place.Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.또 예수아와 바니와 세레뱌와 야민과 악굽과 사브대와 호디야와 마아세야와 그리다와 아사랴와 요사밧과 하난과 블라야와 레위 사람들이 백성에게 율법을 깨닫게 하니, 백성은 자기 자리에 그대로 서 있었다.

9 Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “ Today is holy to Yahweh your God. Don’t mourn, nor weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto Jehovah your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.총독 느헤미야와 제사장이자 학자인 에스라와 백성을 가르치는 레위 사람들이 온 백성에게 말하였다. "오늘은 너희 하나님 여호와께 거룩한 날이니, 슬퍼하지도 울지도 말라." 백성이 모두 율법의 말씀을 듣고 울었기 때문이다.
10 Then he said to them, “ Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.”Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye grieved; for the joy of Jehovah is your strength.또 그가 그들에게 말하였다. "너희는 가서 기름진 것을 먹고 단것을 마시며, 아무것도 준비하지 못한 사람에게는 몫을 나누어 보내라. 오늘은 우리 주께 거룩한 날이니 근심하지 말라. 여호와로 말미암아 누리는 기쁨이 너희의 힘이니라."
11 So the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Hold your peace, for the day is holy. Don’t be grieved.”So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.그래서 레위 사람들이 온 백성을 진정시키며 말하였다. "조용히 하라. 오늘은 거룩한 날이니 근심하지 말라."
12 All the people went their way to eat, to drink, to send portions, and to celebrate, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.온 백성이 가서 먹고 마시며 몫을 나누어 보내고 크게 기뻐하였으니, 자기들에게 일러 준 말씀을 깨달았기 때문이다.
13 On the second day, the heads of fathers’ households of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together to Ezra the scribe, to study the words of the law.And on the second day were gathered together the heads of fathers’ houses of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to give attention to the words of the law.둘째 날에는 온 백성의 각 가문의 우두머리들과 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 학자 에스라에게 모여, 율법의 말씀을 자세히 살피게 되었다.
14 They found written in the law how Yahweh had commanded by Moses that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;And they found written in the law, how that Jehovah had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;그들이 율법에 기록된 것을 발견하였는데, 곧 여호와께서 모세를 통하여 이스라엘 자손에게 일곱째 달 절기에는 초막에 머물라고 명하신 것이었다.
15 and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, “ Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, branches of wild olive, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make temporary shelters, as it is written.”and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and branches of wild olive, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.또 그들은 모든 성읍과 예루살렘에 두루 알리고 선포하여 이렇게 말하게 하였다. "산으로 나가 올리브 가지와 들올리브 가지와 화석류 가지와 종려나무 가지와 잎이 무성한 나무 가지를 가져다가, 기록된 대로 초막을 지으라."
16 So the people went out and brought them, and made themselves temporary shelters, everyone on the roof of his house, in their courts, in the courts of God’s house, in the wide place of the water gate, and in the wide place of Ephraim’s gate.So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the broad place of the water gate, and in the broad place of the gate of Ephraim.그래서 백성이 나가 그것들을 가져다가 저마다 자기 집 지붕 위와 뜰 안과 하나님의 전 뜰 안과 수문 광장과 에브라임 문 광장에 초막을 지었다.
17 All the assembly of those who had come back out of the captivity made temporary shelters and lived in the temporary shelters, for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.And all the assembly of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and dwelt in the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.사로잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 온 회중이 초막을 짓고 그 초막에 머물렀으니, 눈의 아들 예수아 때부터 그날까지 이스라엘 자손이 이렇게 한 적이 없었다. 그리하여 기쁨이 매우 컸다.
18 Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God.
