1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?그러면 우리가 무엇이라고 말하겠습니까? 은혜가 더 넘치도록 죄 가운데 계속 머물러야 하겠습니까?
2 May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?God forbid. We who died to sin, how shall we any longer live therein?결코 그럴 수 없습니다! 죄에 대하여 죽은 우리가 어떻게 여전히 죄 가운데서 살 수 있겠습니까?
3 Or don’ t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?여러분은 알지 못합니까? 그리스도 예수 안으로 세례를 받은 우리 모두는 그분의 죽으심 안으로 세례를 받은 것입니다.
4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.그러므로 우리는 세례를 통해 그분과 함께 죽음에 이르도록 장사되었습니다. 이는 그리스도께서 아버지의 영광으로 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살아나신 것처럼, 우리도 새 생명 가운데서 살아가게 하려는 것입니다.
5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection;For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection;우리가 그분의 죽으심과 같은 모양으로 그분과 연합한 사람이 되었다면, 또한 그분의 부활에도 참여하게 될 것입니다.
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin.knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin;우리는 이것을 압니다. 곧 우리의 옛 사람이 그분과 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 것은, 죄의 몸을 멸하여 우리가 더 이상 죄의 종노릇 하지 않게 하려는 것입니다.
7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.for he that hath died is justified from sin.이미 죽은 사람은 죄에서 벗어나 자유롭게 되었기 때문입니다.
8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him,But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him;우리가 그리스도와 함께 죽었다면, 또한 그분과 함께 살아갈 것을 믿습니다.
9 knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over him!knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him.우리는 압니다. 그리스도께서 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살아나셨으니 다시는 죽지 않으십니다. 죽음이 더 이상 그분을 지배하지 못합니다!
10 For the death that he died, he died to sin one time; but the life that he lives, he lives to God.For the death that he died, he died unto sin once: but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God.그분께서 죽으신 그 죽음은 죄에 대하여 단번에 죽으신 것이고, 그분께서 사시는 그 생명은 하나님께 대하여 사시는 것입니다.
11 Thus consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus.이와 같이 여러분도 자신을 죄에 대하여는 죽은 사람으로, 그러나 우리 주 그리스도 예수 안에서 하나님께 대하여는 살아 있는 사람으로 여기십시오.
12 Therefore don’ t let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof:그러므로 죄가 여러분의 죽을 몸을 지배하지 못하게 하여, 몸의 욕망에 순종하지 마십시오.
13 Also, do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.neither present your members unto sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.또한 여러분의 지체를 불의의 도구로 죄에게 내주지 말고, 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살아난 사람으로서 여러분 자신을 하나님께 드리며, 여러분의 지체를 의의 도구로 하나님께 드리십시오.
14 For sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.죄가 여러분을 지배하지 못할 것입니다. 여러분은 율법 아래 있지 않고 은혜 아래 있기 때문입니다.
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!What then? shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? God forbid.그러면 어떻게 하겠습니까? 우리가 율법 아래 있지 않고 은혜 아래 있으니 죄를 지어도 되겠습니까? 결코 그럴 수 없습니다!
16 Don’t you know that when you present yourselves as servants and obey someone, you are the servants of whomever you obey, whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?여러분은 알지 못합니까? 여러분이 누구에게 순종하려고 자신을 종으로 내주면, 여러분이 순종하는 그의 종이 됩니다. 곧 죽음에 이르는 죄의 종이 되든지, 아니면 의에 이르는 순종의 종이 되든지 하는 것입니다.
17 But thanks be to God that, whereas you were bondservants of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were delivered.But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered;그러나 하나님께 감사드립니다. 여러분이 전에는 죄의 종이었으나, 이제는 여러분에게 전해진 그 가르침의 본을 마음으로부터 순종하게 되었습니다.
18 Being made free from sin, you became bondservants of righteousness.and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.그리하여 죄에서 해방되어 의의 종이 되었습니다.
19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification.I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness unto sanctification.여러분의 육신이 연약하므로 내가 사람의 말로 이르겠습니다. 여러분이 전에 자신의 지체를 더러움과 불법에 종으로 내주어 불법에 이르렀던 것처럼, 이제는 자신의 지체를 의에 종으로 내주어 거룩함에 이르도록 하십시오.
20 For when you were servants of sin, you were free from righteousness.For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness.여러분이 죄의 종이었을 때에는 의에 대하여 자유로웠습니다.
21 What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.그때에 여러분이 지금 부끄러워하는 그 일들로 무슨 열매를 얻었습니까? 그것들의 마지막은 죽음입니다.
22 But now, being made free from sin and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification and the result of eternal life.But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.그러나 이제는 죄에서 해방되어 하나님의 종이 되었으니, 여러분은 거룩함에 이르는 열매를 맺고 그 결과로 영원한 생명을 얻습니다.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.죄의 삯은 죽음이지만, 하나님의 선물은 우리 주 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 영원한 생명입니다.
