1 Or don’ t you know, brothers ( for I speak to men who know the law ), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?Or are ye ignorant, brethren ( for I speak to men who know the law ), that the law hath dominion over a man for so long time as he liveth?형제 여러분, 율법을 아는 사람들에게 말합니다. 율법이 사람을 다스리는 것은 오직 그 사람이 살아 있는 동안뿐이라는 것을 알지 못합니까?
2 For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.For the woman that hath a husband is bound by law to the husband while he liveth; but if the husband die, she is discharged from the law of the husband.남편이 있는 여자는 그 남편이 살아 있는 동안에는 율법으로 그에게 매여 있지만, 남편이 죽으면 남편에 관한 율법에서 풀려납니다.
3 So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.So then if, while the husband liveth, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband die, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.그러므로 남편이 살아 있는 동안에 다른 남자와 결합하면 간음한 여자라 불릴 것입니다. 그러나 남편이 죽으면 그 율법에서 자유롭게 되어, 다른 남자와 결합해도 간음한 여자가 아닙니다.
4 Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might produce fruit to God.Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that ye should be joined to another, even to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God.그러므로 나의 형제 여러분, 여러분도 그리스도의 몸을 통해 율법에 대해서는 죽은 자가 되었습니다. 이는 여러분이 다른 분, 곧 죽은 자들 가운데서 살아나신 분과 결합하여, 우리가 하나님께 열매를 맺게 하려는 것입니다.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law worked in our members to bring out fruit to death.For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were through the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.우리가 육신 안에 있을 때에는, 율법을 통해 일어나는 죄의 정욕이 우리 지체 가운데서 작용하여 죽음에 이르는 열매를 맺었습니다.
6 But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that wherein we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.그러나 이제 우리는 우리를 얽매던 것에 대해 죽어 율법에서 풀려났으므로, 문자의 낡은 방식이 아니라 영의 새로운 방식으로 섬기게 되었습니다.
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’ t have known sin except through the law. For I wouldn’ t have known coveting unless the law had said, “ You shall not covet.”What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:그러면 우리가 무엇이라 말하겠습니까? 율법이 죄입니까? 결코 그럴 수 없습니다! 오히려 율법이 아니었다면 나는 죄를 알지 못했을 것입니다. 율법이 "탐내지 말라"고 말하지 않았다면, 나는 탐심이 무엇인지 알지 못했을 것입니다.
8 But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.but sin, finding occasion, wrought in me through the commandment all manner of coveting: for apart from the law sin is dead.그러나 죄가 그 계명을 틈타 내 안에 온갖 탐심을 일으켰습니다. 율법이 없으면 죄는 죽은 것이기 때문입니다.
9 I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.And I was alive apart from the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died;전에 율법이 없을 때에는 내가 살아 있었으나, 계명이 임하자 죄가 되살아나고 나는 죽었습니다.
10 The commandment which was for life, this I found to be for death;and the commandment, which was unto life, this I found to be unto death:그리하여 생명에 이르게 할 그 계명이 도리어 나를 죽음에 이르게 하는 것임을 나는 발견했습니다.
11 for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.for sin, finding occasion, through the commandment beguiled me, and through it slew me.죄가 그 계명을 틈타 나를 속이고, 그것으로 나를 죽였기 때문입니다.
12 Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, righteous, and good.So that the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.그러므로 율법은 참으로 거룩하며, 계명도 거룩하고 의롭고 선합니다.
13 Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful.Did then that which is good become death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good;— that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.그러면 선한 것이 나에게 죽음이 되었습니까? 결코 그럴 수 없습니다! 다만 죄가 죄로 드러나기 위하여, 선한 것을 통해 내게 죽음을 일으킨 것입니다. 이는 그 계명을 통해 죄가 한없이 죄 되게 하려는 것입니다.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.우리는 율법이 신령한 것임을 압니다. 그러나 나는 육신에 속한 자라 죄 아래 팔린 몸입니다.
15 For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do.나는 내가 행하는 것을 알지 못합니다. 내가 원하는 것은 행하지 않고, 도리어 내가 미워하는 것을 행하기 때문입니다.
16 But if what I don’ t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good.그러나 내가 원하지 않는 것을 행한다면, 나는 그 율법이 선하다는 것을 인정하는 셈입니다.
17 So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.그렇다면 이제 그것을 행하는 자는 더 이상 내가 아니라, 내 안에 거하는 죄입니다.
18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’ t find it doing that which is good.For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good is not.나는 내 안에, 곧 내 육신 안에 선한 것이 거하지 않는다는 것을 압니다. 원하는 마음은 내게 있으나 선한 것을 행하는 일은 찾을 수 없기 때문입니다.
19 For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise.내가 원하는 선은 행하지 않고, 도리어 원하지 않는 악을 행합니다.
20 But if what I don’ t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.그러나 내가 원하지 않는 것을 행한다면, 그것을 행하는 자는 더 이상 내가 아니라, 내 안에 거하는 죄입니다.
21 I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present.I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.그래서 나는 한 가지 법칙을 발견합니다. 곧 선을 행하기를 원하는 나에게 악이 함께 있다는 것입니다.
22 For I delight in God’s law after the inward person,For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:나는 속사람으로는 하나님의 율법을 즐거워합니다.
23 but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.그러나 내 지체 안에는 다른 법이 있어, 내 마음의 법과 싸워 나를 내 지체 안에 있는 죄의 법 아래로 사로잡아 가는 것을 봅니다.
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death?나는 얼마나 비참한 사람입니까! 누가 이 죽음의 몸에서 나를 건져 주겠습니까?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’ s law, but with the flesh, sin’ s law.I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I of myself with the mind, indeed, serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통하여 하나님께 감사합니다! 그러므로 나는 마음으로는 하나님의 율법을 섬기지만, 육신으로는 죄의 법을 섬깁니다.
