2 a man to whom God gives riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing for his soul of all that he desires, yet God gives him no power to eat of it, but an alien eats it. This is vanity, and it is an evil disease.a man to whom God giveth riches, wealth, and honor, so that he lacketh nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but an alien eateth it; this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.하나님께서 어떤 사람에게 재물과 부와 명예를 주셔서 그가 바라는 모든 것이 부족함이 없게 하셨으나, 정작 하나님께서 그가 그것을 누리도록 허락하지 않으셔서 엉뚱한 사람이 그것을 차지하니, 이것은 헛되고 비참한 불행이다.
3 If a man fathers a hundred children, and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not filled with good, and moreover he has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better than he;If a man beget a hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul be not filled with good, and moreover he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he:어떤 사람이 자녀를 백 명이나 낳고 여러 해를 살아 그 사는 날이 많을지라도, 그의 영혼이 좋은 것으로 만족하지 못하고 게다가 제대로 묻히지도 못한다면, 나는 차라리 사산되어 죽은 아이가 그보다 낫다고 말하겠다.

6 Yes, though he live a thousand years twice told, and yet fails to enjoy good, don’t all go to one place?yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, and yet enjoy no good, do not all go to one place?비록 그가 천 년을 두 번 산다 해도 좋은 것을 누리지 못한다면, 결국 모두가 한곳으로 돌아가지 않겠는가?

8 For what advantage has the wise more than the fool? What has the poor man, that knows how to walk before the living?For what advantage hath the wise more than the fool? or what hath the poor man, that knoweth how to walk before the living?그러니 지혜로운 사람이 어리석은 사람보다 무슨 나은 점이 있겠는가? 산 사람 앞에서 처신할 줄 아는 가난한 사람에게 무슨 유익이 있겠는가?
9 Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this also is vanity and a striving after wind.마음으로 헤매며 갈망하는 것보다 눈앞에 있는 것을 보는 편이 낫다. 이것도 헛되어 바람을 좇는 것과 같다.
10 Whatever has been, its name was given long ago; and it is known what man is; neither can he contend with him who is mightier than he.Whatsoever hath been, the name thereof was given long ago; and it is known what man is; neither can he contend with him that is mightier than he.이미 있어 온 것은 그 이름이 오래전에 정해졌고, 사람이 어떤 존재인지도 이미 알려져 있으니, 사람은 자기보다 강한 분과 다툴 수 없다.
11 For there are many words that create vanity. What does that profit man?Seeing there are many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?말이 많을수록 헛됨만 더하니, 그것이 사람에게 무슨 유익이 되겠는가?
12 For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he spends like a shadow? For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?For who knoweth what is good for man in his life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?사람이 그림자처럼 보내는 헛된 생애의 모든 날 동안, 무엇이 사람에게 좋은지 누가 알겠는가? 또한 사람이 떠난 뒤에 해 아래에서 무슨 일이 있을지 누가 그에게 말해 줄 수 있겠는가?
