3 Yes, better than them both is him who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.yea, better than them both did I esteem him that hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.그러나 이 둘보다 더 나은 자는 아직 태어나지 않은 자, 곧 해 아래에서 행해지는 악한 일을 보지 못한 자다.
4 Then I saw all the labor and achievement that is the envy of a man’s neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.Then I saw all labor and every skilful work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.또 내가 보니, 사람이 들이는 온갖 수고와 모든 뛰어난 솜씨가 이웃에게 시기를 받는 까닭이었다. 이것도 헛되며 바람을 잡으려는 것과 같다.
5 The fool folds his hands together and ruins himself.The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.어리석은 자는 두 손을 마주 잡고 가만히 있으면서 자기 몸을 망친다.
6 Better is a handful, with quietness, than two handfuls with labor and chasing after wind.Better is a handful, with quietness, than two handfuls with labor and striving after wind.수고하며 바람을 잡으려고 두 손에 가득 채우는 것보다, 한 손에만 채우고 평안히 지내는 것이 더 낫다.
7 Then I returned and saw vanity under the sun.Then I returned and saw vanity under the sun.내가 다시 돌이켜 해 아래에서 또 하나의 헛된 일을 보았다.
8 There is one who is alone, and he has neither son nor brother. There is no end to all of his labor, neither are his eyes satisfied with wealth. “ For whom then do I labor and deprive my soul of enjoyment?” This also is vanity. Yes, it is a miserable business.There is one that is alone, and he hath not a second; yea, he hath neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labor, neither are his eyes satisfied with riches. For whom then, saith he, do I labor, and deprive my soul of good? This also is vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.홀로 외로이 사는 사람이 있어, 그에게는 아들도 형제도 없는데, 그 모든 수고에는 끝이 없고 그의 눈은 재물로도 만족하지 못한다. 그러면서도 그는 "나는 누구를 위하여 이렇게 수고하며, 내 영혼이 좋은 것을 누리지 못하게 하는가?" 하고 묻지도 않는다. 이것도 헛되며 참으로 괴로운 일이다.

14 For out of prison he came out to be king; yes, even in his kingdom he was born poor.For out of prison he came forth to be king; yea, even in his kingdom he was born poor.그 젊은이는 감옥에서 나와 왕이 되었으니, 그는 왕이 되기 전에 그 나라에서 가난하게 태어난 자였다.
15 I saw all the living who walk under the sun, that they were with the youth, the other, who succeeded him.I saw all the living that walk under the sun, that they were with the youth, the second, that stood up in his stead.내가 보니, 해 아래에서 살아가는 모든 사람이 그 왕의 뒤를 이은 그 둘째 젊은이의 편에 섰다.
