1 David said in his heart, “ I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So I will escape out of his hand.”And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.다윗이 속으로 생각하였다. "이제 언젠가는 내가 사울의 손에 죽고 말 것이다. 차라리 블레셋 사람들의 땅으로 피하는 것보다 더 나은 길이 없다. 그러면 사울이 나를 단념하고 이스라엘 온 지경에서 더 이상 나를 찾지 않을 것이니, 나는 그의 손에서 벗어나게 될 것이다."

4 Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, so he stopped looking for him.And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.다윗이 가드로 도망쳤다는 소식이 사울에게 전해지자, 사울은 더 이상 다윗을 찾지 않았다.
5 David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”And David said unto Achish, If now I have found favor in thine eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?다윗이 아기스에게 말하였다. "제가 왕의 눈에 은혜를 입었다면, 시골 성읍 가운데 한 곳에 저에게 자리를 주셔서 거기서 살게 해 주십시오. 어찌 종이 왕도성에서 왕과 함께 지내겠습니까?"
6 Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.그러자 아기스는 그날로 다윗에게 시글락을 주었다. 그래서 시글락은 오늘날까지 유다 왕들에게 속하게 되었다.
7 The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.And the number of the days that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.다윗이 블레셋 사람들의 땅에서 산 기간은 꼬박 일 년 사 개월이었다.
8 David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, on the way to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.And David and his men went up, and made a raid upon the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those nations were the inhabitants of the land, who were of old, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.다윗과 그의 부하들은 올라가 그술 사람과 기르스 사람과 아말렉 사람을 습격하였다. 이들은 옛날부터 그 땅에 살던 주민들로, 술을 지나 이집트 땅에 이르는 지역에 거하던 사람들이었다.
9 David struck the land, and saved no man or woman alive, and took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned, and came to Achish.And David smote the land, and saved neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel; and he returned, and came to Achish.다윗은 그 땅을 쳐서 남자도 여자도 살려 두지 않았으며, 양 떼와 소 떼와 나귀와 낙타와 옷가지를 빼앗아 가지고 돌아와 아기스에게로 왔다.
10 Achish said, “ Against whom have you made a raid today?” David said, “ Against the South of Judah, against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.”And Achish said, Against whom have ye made a raid to-day? And David said, Against the South of Judah, and against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.아기스가 물었다. "오늘은 누구를 습격하였소?" 다윗이 대답하였다. "유다 남쪽과 여라므엘 사람의 남쪽과 겐 사람의 남쪽을 쳤습니다."
11 David saved neither man nor woman alive to bring them to Gath, saying, “ Lest they should tell about us, saying, ‘ David did this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell of us, saying, So did David, and so hath been his manner all the while he hath dwelt in the country of the Philistines.다윗은 남자도 여자도 살려서 가드로 데려오지 않았다. 그것은 "그들이 우리에 관하여 '다윗이 이러이러하게 행하였다. 그가 블레셋 사람들의 땅에서 사는 동안 늘 이렇게 해 왔다'고 일러바칠까 염려된다"는 생각 때문이었다.
12 Achish believed David, saying, “ He has made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he will be my servant forever.”And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.아기스는 다윗을 믿고 이렇게 말하였다. "그가 자기 백성 이스라엘이 자기를 몹시 미워하게 만들었으니, 영원히 내 종이 될 것이다."
