1 Now the Philistines had taken God’s ark, and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod.블레셋 사람들이 하나님의 궤를 빼앗아 에벤에셀에서 아스돗으로 가져갔다.
2 The Philistines took God’s ark, and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.블레셋 사람들은 하나님의 궤를 가져다가 다곤의 신전 안에 들여놓고 다곤 곁에 두었다.
3 When the people of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark. They took Dagon and set him in his place again.And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.아스돗 사람들이 이튿날 아침 일찍 일어나 보니, 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드러져 있었다. 그래서 그들은 다곤을 일으켜 다시 제자리에 세워 두었다.
4 When they arose early on the following morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before Yahweh’s ark; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold. Only Dagon’s torso was intact.And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands lay cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.그 다음 날 아침 일찍 일어나 보니, 다곤이 또 여호와의 궤 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드러져 있었다. 게다가 다곤의 머리와 두 손바닥이 잘려 문지방 위에 떨어져 있고, 몸통만 남아 있었다.
5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon’s house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, unto this day.그런 까닭에 오늘날까지도 다곤의 제사장들이나 아스돗에 있는 다곤의 신전에 들어가는 사람은 그 누구도 다곤의 문지방을 밟지 않는다.
6 But Yahweh’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them and struck them with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders.But the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with tumors, even Ashdod and the borders thereof.여호와의 손이 아스돗 사람들을 무겁게 누르셔서, 그들을 멸망시키시고 아스돗과 그 주변 지역을 종기로 치셨다.
7 When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, “ The ark of the God of Israel shall not stay with us, for his hand is severe on us and on Dagon our god.”And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us; for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.아스돗 사람들이 이 일을 보고 말하기를 "이스라엘 하나님의 궤가 우리와 함께 있어서는 안 되겠다. 그분의 손이 우리와 우리 신 다곤을 호되게 치시는구나" 하였다.
8 They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “ What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” They answered, “ Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried over to Gath.” They carried the ark of the God of Israel there.They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel thither.그래서 그들은 사람을 보내어 블레셋의 모든 영주를 자기들에게로 불러 모으고 물었다. "이스라엘 하나님의 궤를 어떻게 하면 좋겠소?" 그들이 대답하였다. "이스라엘 하나님의 궤를 가드로 옮깁시다." 그리하여 그들은 이스라엘 하나님의 궤를 그리로 옮겼다.
9 It was so, that after they had carried it there, Yahweh’s hand was against the city with a very great confusion; and he struck the men of the city, both small and great, so that tumors broke out on them.And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with a very great discomfiture: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great; and tumors brake out upon them.그런데 그들이 궤를 옮기고 난 뒤에 여호와의 손이 그 성읍을 치셔서 아주 큰 혼란이 일어났다. 그분께서 그 성읍 사람들을 작은 자나 큰 자나 다 치시니, 그들에게 종기가 돋아났다.
10 So they sent God’s ark to Ekron. As God’s ark came to Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, “ They have brought the ark of the God of Israel here to us, to kill us and our people.”So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.그래서 그들은 하나님의 궤를 에그론으로 보냈다. 하나님의 궤가 에그론에 이르자, 에그론 사람들이 부르짖으며 말하였다. "그들이 이스라엘 하나님의 궤를 우리에게로 옮겨 와서 우리와 우리 백성을 죽이려 하는구나."
11 They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, “ Send the ark of the God of Israel away, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly panic throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy there.They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that it slay us not, and our people. For there was a deadly discomfiture throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.그래서 그들은 사람을 보내어 블레셋의 모든 영주를 불러 모으고 말하였다. "이스라엘 하나님의 궤를 돌려보내어 다시 그 본래의 자리로 가게 하시오. 그래야 그것이 우리와 우리 백성을 죽이지 않을 것이오." 온 성읍에 죽음의 혼란이 가득하여, 하나님의 손이 거기서 아주 무겁게 누르셨기 때문이다.
12 The men who didn’t die were struck with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.And the men that died not were smitten with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.죽지 않은 사람들은 종기로 고통을 당하였고, 그 성읍의 부르짖음이 하늘에까지 올라갔다.
