1 Samuel said to Saul, “ Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of Yahweh’s words.And Samuel said unto Saul, Jehovah sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of Jehovah.사무엘이 사울에게 말하였다. "여호와께서 나를 보내셔서 당신에게 기름을 부어 그분의 백성, 곧 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕으로 세우게 하셨습니다. 그러니 이제 여호와의 말씀에 귀를 기울이십시오.
2 Yahweh of Armies says, ‘ I remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way when he came up out of Egypt.Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I have marked that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.만군의 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. '이스라엘이 이집트에서 올라올 때에 아말렉이 길에서 그들을 가로막고 대적한 그 일을 내가 기억하고 있다.
3 Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.이제 가서 아말렉을 치고, 그들에게 속한 모든 것을 남김없이 진멸하여라. 그들을 아끼지 말고 남자와 여자, 어린아이와 젖먹이, 소와 양, 낙타와 나귀까지 모두 죽여라.'"
4 Saul summoned the people, and counted them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah.And Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.사울은 백성을 소집하여 들라임에서 그 수를 세었는데, 보병이 이십만 명이었고 유다 사람이 만 명이었다.
5 Saul came to the city of Amalek, and set an ambush in the valley.And Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.사울은 아말렉 성읍에 이르러 골짜기에 매복하였다.
6 Saul said to the Kenites, “ Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for ye showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.사울이 겐 사람들에게 말하였다. "물러가시오. 아말렉 사람들 가운데서 떠나 내려가시오. 그렇지 않으면 내가 그들과 함께 당신들도 멸하게 될 것이오. 당신들은 이스라엘 자손이 이집트에서 올라올 때에 그들 모두에게 친절을 베풀었기 때문이오." 그래서 겐 사람들은 아말렉 사람들 가운데서 떠나갔다.
7 Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, which is before Egypt.And Saul smote the Amalekites, from Havilah as thou goest to Shur, that is before Egypt.사울은 하윌라에서부터 이집트 앞에 있는 술에 이르기까지 아말렉 사람들을 쳤다.
8 He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.그는 아말렉 왕 아각을 사로잡고, 그 백성은 모두 칼날로 진멸하였다.
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, of the fat calves, of the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.그러나 사울과 백성은 아각과, 양과 소 가운데 가장 좋은 것과 살진 짐승과 어린 양과, 그 밖에 좋은 것은 모두 아껴서 진멸하려 하지 않았다. 다만 천하고 쓸모없는 것만은 모두 진멸하였다.
10 Then Yahweh’s word came to Samuel, saying,Then came the word of Jehovah unto Samuel, saying,그때 여호와의 말씀이 사무엘에게 임하였다.
11 “ It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to Yahweh all night.It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And Samuel was wroth; and he cried unto Jehovah all night."내가 사울을 왕으로 세운 것이 후회된다. 그가 나를 따르기를 돌이켜 나의 명령을 행하지 않았기 때문이다." 사무엘은 마음이 괴로워 밤새도록 여호와께 부르짖었다.
12 Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and Samuel was told, saying, “ Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, turned, passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a monument, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal.사무엘이 아침 일찍 일어나 사울을 만나러 갔는데, 사람들이 사무엘에게 전하였다. "사울이 갈멜에 이르러 자기를 위하여 기념비를 세우고, 돌이켜 그곳을 지나 길갈로 내려갔습니다."
13 Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, “ You are blessed by Yahweh! I have performed the commandment of Yahweh.”And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of Jehovah: I have performed the commandment of Jehovah.사무엘이 사울에게 이르니 사울이 그에게 말하였다. "여호와께 복 받으시기를 빕니다! 나는 여호와의 명령을 행하였습니다."
14 Samuel said, “ Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?사무엘이 말하였다. "그러면 내 귀에 들리는 이 양의 울음소리와 내가 듣는 이 소의 울음소리는 무엇입니까?"
15 Saul said, “ They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto Jehovah thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.사울이 말하였다. "그것들은 백성이 아말렉 사람들에게서 끌고 온 것입니다. 백성이 당신의 하나님 여호와께 제사를 드리려고 양과 소 가운데 가장 좋은 것을 아꼈고, 나머지는 우리가 모두 진멸하였습니다."
16 Then Samuel said to Saul, “ Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh said to me last night.” He said to him, “ Say on.”Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what Jehovah hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.그러자 사무엘이 사울에게 말하였다. "잠깐 멈추십시오. 여호와께서 지난밤에 내게 하신 말씀을 당신에게 전하겠습니다." 사울이 그에게 "말씀하십시오." 하고 대답하였다.
17 Samuel said, “Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh anointed you king over Israel;And Samuel said, Though thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel? And Jehovah anointed thee king over Israel;사무엘이 말하였다. "당신이 스스로 작게 여겼을 때에 이스라엘 지파의 머리가 되지 않았습니까? 여호와께서 당신에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼으셨습니다.
18 and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, ‘ Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’and Jehovah sent thee on a journey, and said, Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.그리고 여호와께서 당신을 길을 떠나보내시며 말씀하셨습니다. '가서 저 죄인들인 아말렉 사람들을 진멸하고, 그들이 다 없어질 때까지 그들과 싸우라.'
19 Why then didn’t you obey Yahweh’s voice, but took the plunder, and did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight?”Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of Jehovah, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah?그런데 어찌하여 당신은 여호와의 목소리에 순종하지 않고 노략물에 달려들어, 여호와께서 보시기에 악한 일을 행하였습니까?"
20 Saul said to Samuel, “ But I have obeyed Yahweh’s voice, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of Jehovah, and have gone the way which Jehovah sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.사울이 사무엘에게 말하였다. "나는 분명히 여호와의 목소리에 순종하여 여호와께서 보내신 길로 갔습니다. 아말렉 왕 아각을 끌고 왔고, 아말렉 사람들을 진멸하였습니다.
21 But the people took of the plunder, sheep and cattle, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God in Gilgal.”But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice unto Jehovah thy God in Gilgal.다만 백성이 노략물 가운데서 진멸하기로 한 것 중 가장 좋은 양과 소를 끌고 와서, 길갈에서 당신의 하나님 여호와께 제사를 드리려 한 것입니다."
22 Samuel said, “ Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying Yahweh’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.And Samuel said, Hath Jehovah as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.사무엘이 말하였다. "여호와께서 번제와 제사를 여호와의 목소리에 순종하는 것만큼 기뻐하시겠습니까? 보십시오, 순종이 제사보다 낫고, 귀를 기울이는 것이 숫양의 기름보다 낫습니다.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected Yahweh’s word, he has also rejected you from being king.”For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, he hath also rejected thee from being king.반역은 점치는 죄와 같고, 완고함은 우상 숭배와 드라빔과 같습니다. 당신이 여호와의 말씀을 버렸으므로, 그분도 당신을 버려 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨습니다."
24 Saul said to Samuel, “ I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Jehovah, and thy words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.사울이 사무엘에게 말하였다. "내가 죄를 지었습니다. 내가 백성을 두려워하여 그들의 목소리에 순종하느라, 여호와의 명령과 당신의 말을 어겼습니다.
25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.”Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Jehovah.그러니 이제 내 죄를 용서하시고, 나와 함께 돌아가셔서 내가 여호와께 경배하게 해 주십시오."
26 Samuel said to Saul, “ I will not return with you; for you have rejected Yahweh’s word, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.사무엘이 사울에게 말하였다. "나는 당신과 함께 돌아가지 않겠습니다. 당신이 여호와의 말씀을 버렸으므로, 여호와께서도 당신을 버려 이스라엘의 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨습니다."
27 As Samuel turned around to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.And as Samuel turned about to go away, Saul laid hold upon the skirt of his robe, and it rent.사무엘이 돌이켜 떠나가려 하자, 사울이 그의 겉옷 자락을 붙잡았고, 옷이 찢어졌다.
28 Samuel said to him, “ Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.And Samuel said unto him, Jehovah hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine, that is better than thou.사무엘이 그에게 말하였다. "여호와께서 오늘 이스라엘 나라를 당신에게서 찢어 내시어, 당신보다 나은 당신의 이웃에게 주셨습니다.
29 Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.또한 이스라엘의 영광이신 분은 거짓말하지도 않으시고 후회하지도 않으십니다. 그분은 사람이 아니시니 후회하실 분이 아닙니다."
30 Then he said, “ I have sinned; yet please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship Yahweh your God.”Then he said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship Jehovah thy God.사울이 말하였다. "내가 죄를 지었습니다. 그러나 이제 내 백성의 장로들 앞과 이스라엘 앞에서 나를 높여 주시고, 나와 함께 돌아가셔서 내가 당신의 하나님 여호와께 경배하게 해 주십시오."
31 So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped Jehovah.그래서 사무엘이 사울을 따라 돌아갔고, 사울은 여호와께 경배하였다.
32 Then Samuel said, “ Bring Agag the king of the Amalekites here to me!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him cheerfully. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.그때 사무엘이 말하였다. "아말렉 왕 아각을 내게로 끌어 오너라." 아각이 즐거운 마음으로 그에게 나아왔다. 아각이 말하였다. "참으로 죽음의 쓰라림은 지나갔구나."
33 Samuel said, “ As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!” Then Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.사무엘이 말하였다. "네 칼이 여인들을 자식 없게 만든 것처럼, 네 어머니도 여인들 가운데서 자식 없는 자가 될 것이다." 그리고 사무엘은 길갈에서 여호와 앞에서 아각을 칼로 쳐 토막 내었다.
34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.그 후 사무엘은 라마로 갔고, 사울은 자기 집이 있는 사울의 기브아로 올라갔다.
35 Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, but Samuel mourned for Saul. Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul: and Jehovah repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.사무엘은 죽는 날까지 다시는 사울을 보러 가지 않았으니, 사무엘이 사울을 두고 슬퍼하였기 때문이다. 여호와께서도 사울을 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼으신 것을 후회하셨다.
