1 The men of Kiriath Jearim came and took Yahweh’s ark, and brought it into Abinadab’s house on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep Yahweh’s ark.And the men of Kiriath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of Jehovah, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Jehovah.기럇여아림 사람들이 와서 여호와의 궤를 옮겨다가 언덕 위 아비나답의 집에 들여놓고, 그의 아들 엘르아살을 거룩히 구별하여 여호와의 궤를 지키게 하였다.
2 From the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long — for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.And it came to pass, from the day that the ark abode in Kiriath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Jehovah.궤가 기럇여아림에 머문 날부터 오랜 세월이 흘러 이십 년이 지났는데, 이스라엘 온 집안이 여호와를 사모하며 슬피 부르짖었다.
3 Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto Jehovah with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts unto Jehovah, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.사무엘이 이스라엘 온 집안에게 말하였다. "너희가 온 마음을 다하여 여호와께로 돌아오려거든, 너희 가운데서 이방 신들과 아스다롯을 없애 버리고, 너희 마음을 여호와께 향하여 오직 그분만 섬겨라. 그리하면 그분이 너희를 블레셋 사람의 손에서 건져 내실 것이다."
4 Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Yahweh only.Then the children of Israel did put away the Baalim and the Ashtaroth, and served Jehovah only.그래서 이스라엘 자손이 바알들과 아스다롯을 없애 버리고 오직 여호와만 섬겼다.
5 Samuel said, “ Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to Yahweh for you.”And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you unto Jehovah.사무엘이 말하였다. "온 이스라엘을 미스바로 모으라. 내가 너희를 위하여 여호와께 기도하겠다."
6 They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “ We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.And they gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Jehovah, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.그들이 미스바에 함께 모여 물을 길어다가 여호와 앞에 쏟아 붓고 그 날에 금식하며 거기서 말하였다. "우리가 여호와께 죄를 지었습니다." 그리고 사무엘은 미스바에서 이스라엘 자손을 다스렸다.
7 When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.블레셋 사람들은 이스라엘 자손이 미스바에 함께 모였다는 말을 듣고, 블레셋 지도자들이 이스라엘을 치러 올라왔다. 이스라엘 자손은 그 소식을 듣고 블레셋 사람들을 두려워하였다.
8 The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t stop crying to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto Jehovah our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.이스라엘 자손이 사무엘에게 말하였다. "우리를 위하여 우리 하나님 여호와께 부르짖기를 그치지 마십시오. 그분이 우리를 블레셋 사람의 손에서 구해 주시도록 말입니다."
9 Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh. Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel, and Yahweh answered him.And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt-offering unto Jehovah: and Samuel cried unto Jehovah for Israel; and Jehovah answered him.그러자 사무엘이 젖 먹는 어린 양 한 마리를 가져다가 여호와께 온전한 번제로 드리고, 이스라엘을 위하여 여호와께 부르짖으니, 여호와께서 그에게 응답하셨다.
10 As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.And as Samuel was offering up the burnt-offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but Jehovah thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten down before Israel.사무엘이 번제를 드리고 있을 때에 블레셋 사람들이 이스라엘을 치려고 가까이 다가왔다. 그러나 여호와께서 그 날에 블레셋 사람들 위에 큰 우레로 천둥을 쳐서 그들을 혼란에 빠뜨리시니, 그들이 이스라엘 앞에서 쳐서 쓰러졌다.
11 The men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and struck them until they came under Beth Kar.And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car.이스라엘 사람들이 미스바에서 나가 블레셋 사람들을 뒤쫓으며, 벧갈 아래에 이르기까지 그들을 쳤다.
12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “ Yahweh helped us until now.”Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath Jehovah helped us.그때 사무엘이 돌 하나를 가져다가 미스바와 센 사이에 세우고, 그 이름을 에벤에셀이라 부르며 말하였다. "여호와께서 여기까지 우리를 도우셨다."
13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped coming within the border of Israel. Yahweh’s hand was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel: and the hand of Jehovah was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.그리하여 블레셋 사람들이 굴복하여 다시는 이스라엘 영토 안으로 들어오지 못하였다. 사무엘이 사는 모든 날 동안 여호와의 손이 블레셋 사람들을 치셨다.
14 The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the border thereof did Israel deliver out of the hand of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.블레셋 사람들이 이스라엘에게서 빼앗았던 성읍들이 에그론에서 가드에 이르기까지 이스라엘에게 돌아왔고, 이스라엘은 그 경계 지역을 블레셋 사람의 손에서 되찾았다. 그리고 이스라엘과 아모리 사람 사이에 평화가 있었다.
15 Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.사무엘은 평생 동안 이스라엘을 다스렸다.
16 He went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.And he went from year to year in circuit to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.그는 해마다 벧엘과 길갈과 미스바를 두루 다니며 그 모든 곳에서 이스라엘을 다스렸다.
17 His return was to Ramah, for his house was there, and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to Yahweh there.And his return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel: and he built there an altar unto Jehovah.그러나 그가 돌아가는 곳은 라마였으니, 거기에 그의 집이 있었기 때문이다. 그는 거기서도 이스라엘을 다스렸으며, 거기에 여호와를 위하여 제단을 쌓았다.
