5 He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he wore a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.그는 머리에 놋 투구를 썼고 비늘 갑옷을 입었는데, 그 갑옷의 무게가 놋 오천 세겔이나 되었다.
6 He had bronze shin armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders.And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.그는 다리에 놋 정강이 받이를 둘렀고 어깨 사이에는 놋 단창을 메고 있었다.
7 The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. 8 He stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “ Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.그가 서서 이스라엘 군대를 향해 외쳐 말했다. "어찌하여 너희가 나와 전투 대형을 갖추려고 나왔느냐? 나는 블레셋 사람이고 너희는 사울의 종이 아니냐? 너희 가운데 한 사람을 골라 나에게 내려보내라.
9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you will be our servants and serve us.”If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.그가 나와 싸워 나를 죽이면 우리가 너희의 종이 되겠다. 그러나 내가 그를 이겨 죽이면 너희가 우리의 종이 되어 우리를 섬겨야 한다."
10 The Philistine said, “ I defy the armies of Israel today! Give me a man, that we may fight together!”And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.그 블레셋 사람이 말했다. "내가 오늘 이스라엘 군대를 모욕한다! 나에게 한 사람을 보내어 함께 싸우게 하라!"
11 When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.And when Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.사울과 온 이스라엘이 그 블레셋 사람의 말을 듣고 낙심하여 크게 두려워했다.
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons. 14 David was the youngest; and the three oldest followed Saul.And David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul.다윗은 막내였고, 세 큰아들은 사울을 따라갔다.
15 Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Beth-lehem.다윗은 사울에게서 오가며 베들레헴에서 아버지의 양 떼를 치고 있었다.

17 Jesse said to David his son, “ Now take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers;And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to thy brethren;이새가 그의 아들 다윗에게 말했다. 20 David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper, and took the provisions and went, as Jesse had commanded him. 24 All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were terrified.And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.이스라엘 사람들은 모두 그 사람을 보고 그 앞에서 도망쳤으며 크게 두려워했다.
25 The men of Israel said, “ Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. The king will give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house tax-free in Israel.”And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.이스라엘 사람들이 말했다. "너희는 올라온 이 사람을 보았느냐? 그는 분명히 이스라엘을 모욕하려고 올라온 것이다. 그를 죽이는 사람에게는 왕이 큰 재물로 부유하게 하고 자기 딸을 주며 그 아버지의 집안을 이스라엘에서 세금이 면제되게 해 줄 것이다."
26 David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “ What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?다윗이 곁에 서 있는 사람들에게 말했다. "이 블레셋 사람을 죽여 이스라엘에서 치욕을 없애는 사람에게는 무엇을 해 주겠습니까? 이 할례받지 않은 블레셋 사람이 무엇이기에 살아 계신 하나님의 군대를 모욕한단 말입니까?"
27 The people answered him in this way, saying, “ So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.백성이 그에게 이렇게 대답했다. "그를 죽이는 사람에게는 이러이러하게 해 줄 것이다."
28 Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David, and he said, “ Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.그의 맏형 엘리압이 다윗이 사람들에게 말하는 것을 듣고 다윗에게 화가 나서 말했다. "네가 어찌하여 여기 내려왔느냐? 그리고 광야에 있는 그 몇 마리 안 되는 양은 누구에게 맡겼느냐? 나는 네 교만과 네 마음의 못된 것을 안다. 너는 전쟁을 구경하려고 내려온 것이다."
29 David said, “ What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?다윗이 말했다. "내가 이제 무엇을 했단 말입니까? 까닭이 있어서 한 말이 아닙니까?"
30 He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way.And he turned away from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.다윗이 그에게서 돌아서 다른 사람을 향해 또 그렇게 말하니, 백성이 또 전과 같이 그에게 대답했다.
31 When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.다윗이 한 말이 들려지자, 사람들이 그 말을 사울 앞에 전했고, 사울이 그를 불러오게 했다.
32 David said to Saul, “ Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.다윗이 사울에게 말했다. "이 사람 때문에 아무도 마음이 약해지지 않게 하소서. 왕의 종이 가서 이 블레셋 사람과 싸우겠습니다."
33 Saul said to David, “ You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.사울이 다윗에게 말했다. "너는 이 블레셋 사람에게 맞서 싸울 수 없다. 너는 아직 소년이고, 그는 어릴 때부터 군인이었다."
34 David said to Saul, “ Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,And David said unto Saul, Thy servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,다윗이 사울에게 말했다. "왕의 종이 아버지의 양을 치고 있었는데, 사자나 곰이 와서 양 떼에서 어린 양을 물어 가면,
35 I went out after him, struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, struck him, and killed him.I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.제가 그 뒤를 쫓아가 그것을 쳐서 그 입에서 어린 양을 건져 냈습니다. 그것이 저에게 덤벼들면 제가 그 수염을 잡고 쳐서 죽였습니다.
36 Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.왕의 종이 사자와 곰을 둘 다 쳐 죽였으니, 이 할례받지 않은 블레셋 사람도 그것들 가운데 하나처럼 될 것입니다. 그가 살아 계신 하나님의 군대를 모욕했기 때문입니다."
37 David said, “ Yahweh, who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “ Go! Yahweh will be with you.”And David said, Jehovah that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and Jehovah shall be with thee.다윗이 말했다. "사자의 발톱과 곰의 발톱에서 저를 건져 내신 여호와께서 이 블레셋 사람의 손에서도 저를 건져 내실 것입니다." 사울이 다윗에게 말했다. "가거라. 여호와께서 너와 함께하실 것이다."
38 Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of bronze on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.And Saul clad David with his apparel, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.사울이 자기 군복을 다윗에게 입혔다. 머리에는 놋 투구를 씌우고 비늘 갑옷을 입혔다.
39 David strapped his sword on his clothing and he tried to move, for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “ I can’t go with these, for I have not tested them.” Then David took them off.And David girded his sword upon his apparel, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.다윗이 군복 위에 칼을 차고 가려 했으나, 그것에 익숙하지 않아 움직이기 어려웠다. 다윗이 사울에게 말했다. "이것들을 입고는 갈 수 없습니다. 익숙하지 않기 때문입니다." 그러고는 그것들을 벗었다.
40 He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag which he had. His sling was in his hand; and he came near to the Philistine.And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, even in his wallet; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.다윗은 자기 막대기를 손에 들고, 시냇가에서 매끄러운 돌 다섯 개를 골라 자기가 가진 목자의 주머니 곧 가죽 부대에 넣었다. 그리고 물맷돌을 손에 들고 그 블레셋 사람에게 가까이 나아갔다.
41 The Philistine walked and came near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.그 블레셋 사람도 다윗에게 점점 가까이 나아왔고, 방패를 든 사람이 그 앞에서 걸어왔다.
42 When the Philistine looked around and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and had a good looking face.And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance.그 블레셋 사람이 둘러보다가 다윗을 보고 그를 업신여겼다. 다윗이 아직 소년이고 얼굴이 붉으며 외모가 잘생겼기 때문이었다.
43 The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” The Philistine cursed David by his gods.And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.그 블레셋 사람이 다윗에게 말했다. "네가 막대기를 가지고 나에게 오니 내가 개냐?" 그러고는 그 블레셋 사람이 자기 신들의 이름으로 다윗을 저주했다.
44 The Philistine said to David, “ Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and to the animals of the field.”And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the birds of the heavens, and to the beasts of the field.그 블레셋 사람이 다윗에게 말했다. "나에게 오너라. 내가 네 살을 공중의 새들과 들짐승들에게 주겠다."
45 Then David said to the Philistine, “ You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to thee in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.그때 다윗이 그 블레셋 사람에게 말했다. "너는 칼과 창과 단창을 가지고 나에게 오지만, 나는 네가 모욕한 이스라엘 군대의 하나님 곧 만군의 여호와의 이름으로 너에게 간다.
46 Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines today to the birds of the sky and to the wild animals of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,This day will Jehovah deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee; and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day unto the birds of the heavens, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,오늘 여호와께서 너를 내 손에 넘겨주실 것이다. 내가 너를 쳐서 네 머리를 베고, 오늘 블레셋 군대의 주검들을 공중의 새들과 땅의 들짐승들에게 줄 것이다. 그리하여 온 땅이 이스라엘에 하나님이 계시는 것을 알게 될 것이다.
47 and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear; for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.”and that all this assembly may know that Jehovah saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is Jehovah’s, and he will give you into our hand.또 여기 모인 모든 사람이 여호와께서 칼과 창으로 구원하지 않으심을 알게 될 것이다. 이는 전쟁이 여호와께 속한 것이며, 그분이 너희를 우리 손에 넘겨주실 것이기 때문이다."
48 When the Philistine arose, and walked and came near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.그 블레셋 사람이 일어나 다윗을 만나려고 가까이 다가올 때, 다윗이 서둘러 그 블레셋 사람을 만나려고 군대 쪽으로 달려갔다.
49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.다윗이 자기 주머니에 손을 넣어 돌 하나를 꺼내어 물매로 던져 그 블레셋 사람의 이마를 쳤다. 돌이 그의 이마에 박히자 그가 땅에 얼굴을 대고 엎어졌다.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him; but there was no sword in David’s hand.So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.이렇게 다윗이 물매와 돌로 그 블레셋 사람을 이겨 쳐 죽였으나, 다윗의 손에는 칼이 없었다.
51 Then David ran, stood over the Philistine, took his sword, drew it out of its sheath, killed him, and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.그때 다윗이 달려가 그 블레셋 사람 위에 서서 그의 칼을 잡아 칼집에서 빼내어 그를 죽이고 그 머리를 베었다. 블레셋 사람들이 자기들의 용사가 죽은 것을 보고 도망쳤다.
52 The men of Israel and of Judah arose and shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as Gai and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath and to Ekron.And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.이스라엘과 유다 사람들이 일어나 함성을 지르며 블레셋 사람들을 쫓아 가이와 에그론 성문까지 따라갔다. 부상당한 블레셋 사람들이 사아라임 길에서부터 가드와 에그론에 이르기까지 쓰러졌다.
53 The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.이스라엘 자손이 블레셋 사람들을 쫓다가 돌아와 그들의 진영을 노략했다.

55 When Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” Abner said, “ As your soul lives, O king, I can’t tell.”And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.사울은 다윗이 그 블레셋 사람에게 맞서 나가는 것을 보고 군대 장관 아브넬에게 말했다. "아브넬아, 이 소년이 누구의 아들이냐?" 아브넬이 말했다. "왕이여, 왕의 생명을 두고 맹세하건대 저는 알지 못합니다."
56 The king said, “ Inquire whose son the young man is!”And the king said, Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.왕이 말했다. "이 젊은이가 누구의 아들인지 알아보라."
