1 Yahweh said to Samuel, “ How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided a king for myself among his sons.”And Jehovah said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from being king over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go: I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite; for I have provided me a king among his sons.여호와께서 사무엘에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 사울을 이스라엘의 왕 자리에서 내쳤는데, 너는 언제까지 그를 위해 슬퍼하겠느냐? 네 뿔에 기름을 채워 가지고 가거라. 내가 너를 베들레헴 사람 이새에게 보내겠다. 그의 아들들 가운데서 내가 쓸 왕을 미리 골라 두었다."
2 Samuel said, “ How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” Yahweh said, “ Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘ I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.’And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And Jehovah said, Take a heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to Jehovah.사무엘이 여쭈었다. "제가 어떻게 갈 수 있겠습니까? 사울이 이 일을 들으면 저를 죽일 것입니다." 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "암송아지 한 마리를 끌고 가서, '내가 여호와께 제사를 드리러 왔다'고 말하여라.
3 Call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. You shall anoint to me him whom I name to you.”And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.그리고 이새를 그 제사 자리로 부르거라. 그러면 네가 할 일을 내가 일러 주겠다. 내가 너에게 지목하는 사람에게 나를 위하여 기름을 부어라."
4 Samuel did that which Yahweh spoke, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, “ Do you come peaceably?”And Samuel did that which Jehovah spake, and came to Beth-lehem. And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Comest thou peaceably?사무엘은 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 행하여 베들레헴에 이르렀다. 그 성읍의 장로들이 떨면서 그를 맞으러 나와 물었다. "평안한 일로 오셨습니까?"
5 He said, “ Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” He sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.And he said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto Jehovah: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.사무엘이 대답하였다. "평안한 일이오. 나는 여호와께 제사를 드리러 왔소. 자신을 거룩하게 하고 나와 함께 제사 자리로 갑시다." 그리고 그는 이새와 그의 아들들을 거룩하게 하고 제사 자리로 그들을 불렀다.
6 When they had come, he looked at Eliab, and said, “ Surely Yahweh’s anointed is before him.”And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely Jehovah’s anointed is before him.그들이 왔을 때, 사무엘이 엘리압을 보고 생각하였다. "분명 여호와께서 기름 부으실 자가 그분 앞에 서 있구나."
7 But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”But Jehovah said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for Jehovah seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looketh on the heart.그러나 여호와께서 사무엘에게 말씀하셨다. "그의 얼굴이나 키 큰 모습을 보지 마라. 내가 그를 버렸다. 여호와는 사람이 보는 것처럼 보지 않는다. 사람은 겉모습을 보지만, 여호와는 마음을 본다."
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, “ Yahweh has not chosen this one, either.”Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath Jehovah chosen this.그러자 이새가 아비나답을 불러 사무엘 앞으로 지나가게 하였다. 사무엘이 말하였다. "이 사람도 여호와께서 택하지 않으셨소."
9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. He said, “ Yahweh has not chosen this one, either.”Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath Jehovah chosen this.이새가 다시 삼마를 지나가게 하였다. 사무엘이 말하였다. "이 사람도 여호와께서 택하지 않으셨소."
10 Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. Samuel said to Jesse, “ Yahweh has not chosen these.”And Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Jehovah hath not chosen these.이새가 자기 아들 일곱을 사무엘 앞으로 지나가게 하였으나, 사무엘이 이새에게 말하였다. "여호와께서 이들을 택하지 않으셨소."
11 Samuel said to Jesse, “ Are all your children here?” He said, “ There remains yet the youngest. Behold, he is keeping the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “ Send and get him, for we will not sit down until he comes here.”And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he is keeping the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he come hither.사무엘이 이새에게 물었다. "당신의 아들이 이들이 전부요?" 이새가 대답하였다. "막내가 아직 남아 있는데, 지금 양을 치고 있습니다." 사무엘이 이새에게 말하였다. "사람을 보내 그를 데려오시오. 그가 여기 올 때까지 우리가 앉지 않겠소."
12 He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with a handsome face and good appearance. Yahweh said, “ Arise! Anoint him, for this is he.”And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look upon. And Jehovah said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.이새가 사람을 보내어 그를 데려왔다. 그는 볼이 붉고 눈이 아름다우며 보기에 잘생긴 소년이었다. 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "일어나 그에게 기름을 부어라. 바로 이 사람이다."
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the middle of his brothers. Then Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.그러자 사무엘이 기름 뿔을 들어 그의 형들 가운데서 그에게 기름을 부었다. 그날 이후로 여호와의 영이 다윗에게 힘 있게 임하셨다. 사무엘은 일어나 라마로 돌아갔다.
14 Now Yahweh’s Spirit departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh troubled him.Now the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovah troubled him.여호와의 영이 사울에게서 떠나고, 여호와께로부터 온 악한 영이 그를 괴롭혔다.
15 Saul’s servants said to him, “ See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.사울의 신하들이 그에게 말하였다. "보십시오, 하나님께로부터 온 악한 영이 임금님을 괴롭히고 있습니다.
16 Let our lord now command your servants who are in front of you to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. Then when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will play with his hand, and you will be well.”Let our lord now command thy servants, that are before thee, to seek out a man who is a skilful player on the harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.임금님께서 앞에 있는 종들에게 명하셔서, 수금을 잘 타는 사람을 찾게 하십시오. 하나님께로부터 온 악한 영이 임금님께 임할 때 그가 손으로 수금을 타면, 임금님께서 나아지실 것입니다."
17 Saul said to his servants, “ Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.”And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.사울이 신하들에게 말하였다. "수금을 잘 타는 사람을 찾아 나에게 데려오너라."
18 Then one of the young men answered and said, “ Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and Yahweh is with him.”Then answered one of the young men, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite, that is skilful in playing, and a mighty man of valor, and a man of war, and prudent in speech, and a comely person; and Jehovah is with him.그러자 젊은 신하 가운데 하나가 대답하였다. "보십시오, 제가 베들레헴 사람 이새의 한 아들을 보았는데, 그는 수금을 잘 타고, 용맹한 용사이며, 싸움에 능하고, 말에 지혜로우며, 잘생긴 사람입니다. 게다가 여호와께서 그와 함께 계십니다."
19 Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “ Send me David your son, who is with the sheep.”Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, who is with the sheep.그래서 사울이 이새에게 심부름꾼을 보내어 말하였다. "양을 치고 있는 네 아들 다윗을 나에게 보내어라."
20 Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a container of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by David his son to Saul.And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.이새가 빵을 실은 나귀와 포도주 한 부대와 어린 염소 한 마리를 마련하여, 자기 아들 다윗 편에 사울에게 보냈다.
21 David came to Saul and stood before him. He loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer.And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armorbearer.다윗이 사울에게 와서 그 앞에 섰다. 사울이 그를 매우 사랑하여, 다윗은 그의 무기를 드는 자가 되었다.
22 Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “ Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.”And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my sight.사울이 이새에게 사람을 보내어 말하였다. "다윗이 내 앞에 머물게 해 주게. 그가 내 눈에 들었네."
23 When the spirit from God was on Saul, David took the harp and played with his hand; so Saul was refreshed and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.하나님께로부터 온 악한 영이 사울에게 임할 때마다, 다윗이 수금을 들고 손으로 타면, 사울이 상쾌해지고 나아졌으며, 악한 영이 그에게서 떠나갔다.
