1 Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.르호보암이 세겜으로 갔으니, 이는 온 이스라엘이 그를 왕으로 세우려고 세겜에 모였기 때문이다.
2 When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it ( for he was yet in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt;And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it ( for he was yet in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,느밧의 아들 여로보암이 이 소식을 들었는데, 그는 그때까지 이집트에 있었다. 솔로몬 왕을 피하여 그곳으로 도망쳐 이집트에서 살고 있었던 것이다.
3 and they sent and called him ), Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,and they sent and called him ), that Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,사람들이 사람을 보내어 그를 불러왔다. 그리하여 여로보암과 이스라엘의 온 회중이 와서 르호보암에게 이렇게 말하였다.
4 “ Your father made our yoke difficult. Now therefore make the hard service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.“왕의 아버지께서 우리에게 무거운 멍에를 지우셨습니다. 그러니 이제 왕께서는 왕의 아버지께서 우리에게 시키신 고된 노역과 그가 우리에게 메우신 무거운 멍에를 가볍게 해 주십시오. 그러면 우리가 왕을 섬기겠습니다.”
5 He said to them, “ Depart for three days, then come back to me.” So the people departed.And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.르호보암이 그들에게 말하였다. “사흘 동안 물러가 있다가 다시 내게로 오시오.” 그러자 백성이 물러갔다.
6 King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “ What counsel do you give me to answer these people?”And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?르호보암 왕은 자기 아버지 솔로몬이 살아 있을 때에 그 앞에서 섬기던 노인들과 의논하며 말하였다. “이 백성에게 대답할 말을 어떻게 하면 좋겠소? 어떤 의견을 주겠소?”
7 They replied, “ If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them with good words, then they will be your servants forever.”And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.노인들이 그에게 대답하여 말하였다. “오늘 왕께서 이 백성에게 종이 되어 그들을 섬기시고, 그들에게 좋은 말로 대답해 주신다면, 그들이 영원토록 왕의 종이 될 것입니다.”
8 But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.그러나 르호보암은 노인들이 준 의견을 저버리고, 자기와 함께 자라나 자기 앞에서 섬기는 젊은이들과 의논하였다.
9 He said to them, “ What counsel do you give, that we may answer these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘ Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”And he said unto them, What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?그가 그들에게 말하였다. “저 백성이 내게 ‘왕의 아버지께서 우리에게 메우신 멍에를 가볍게 해 달라’고 하였는데, 우리가 그들에게 대답할 말을 어떻게 하면 좋겠소? 어떤 의견을 주겠소?”
10 The young men who had grown up with him said to him, “ Tell these people who spoke to you, saying, ‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us’— tell them, ‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.그와 함께 자라난 젊은이들이 그에게 말하였다. “왕께 ‘왕의 아버지께서 우리 멍에를 무겁게 하셨으니 가볍게 해 주십시오’ 하고 말한 저 백성에게 이렇게 말씀하십시오. ‘내 새끼손가락이 내 아버지의 허리보다 굵다.
11 Now my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.내 아버지가 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 지우셨다면, 나는 너희 멍에를 더 무겁게 하겠다. 내 아버지가 채찍으로 너희를 다스리셨다면, 나는 전갈 채찍으로 너희를 다스리겠다.’”
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “ Come to me again the third day.”So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.사흘째 되는 날, 여로보암과 모든 백성이 르호보암에게 왔다. 왕이 “사흘째 되는 날에 다시 내게로 오라”고 말하였던 까닭이다.
13 The king answered the people roughly, and abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him,And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,왕은 백성에게 거칠게 대답하였다. 그는 노인들이 준 의견을 저버리고,
14 and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “ My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”and spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.젊은이들의 의견을 따라 그들에게 말하였다. “내 아버지가 너희 멍에를 무겁게 하셨으나, 나는 너희 멍에를 더 무겁게 하겠다. 내 아버지가 채찍으로 너희를 다스리셨으나, 나는 전갈 채찍으로 너희를 다스리겠다.”
15 So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about from Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was a thing brought about of Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spake by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.이렇게 왕은 백성의 말을 듣지 않았다. 이는 여호와께서 이루신 일이니, 여호와께서 실로 사람 아히야를 통하여 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 하신 말씀을 이루시려 함이었다.
16 When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “ What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.온 이스라엘은 왕이 자기들의 말을 듣지 않는 것을 보고 왕에게 대답하여 말하였다. “우리가 다윗에게서 받을 몫이 무엇이냐? 우리에게 이새의 아들에게서 받을 유산도 없다. 이스라엘아, 네 장막으로 돌아가라! 다윗아, 이제 네 집안이나 돌보아라.” 그리하여 이스라엘은 자기들의 장막으로 돌아갔다.
17 But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.그러나 유다 성읍들에 사는 이스라엘 자손에 대해서는 르호보암이 그들을 다스렸다.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam hurried to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to taskwork; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.르호보암 왕이 강제 노역을 감독하던 아도람을 보냈으나, 온 이스라엘이 그를 돌로 쳐 죽였다. 르호보암 왕은 급히 자기 병거에 올라타 예루살렘으로 도망쳤다.
19 So Israel rebelled against David’s house to this day.So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.이렇게 이스라엘은 다윗의 집안에 맞서 반역하여 오늘에 이르렀다.
20 When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel. There was no one who followed David’s house, except for the tribe of Judah only.And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.온 이스라엘은 여로보암이 돌아왔다는 소식을 듣고, 사람을 보내어 그를 회중에게로 불러서 온 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼았다. 유다 지파 외에는 다윗의 집안을 따르는 자가 아무도 없었다.
21 When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.르호보암은 예루살렘에 이르러, 유다의 온 집안과 베냐민 지파에서 정예 용사 십팔만 명을 모았다. 이스라엘 집안과 싸워 그 나라를 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암에게 되돌리려 함이었다.
22 But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,그러나 하나님의 말씀이 하나님의 사람 스마야에게 임하여 이르셨다.
23 “Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,“솔로몬의 아들이며 유다 왕인 르호보암과 유다와 베냐민의 온 집안과 그 밖의 백성에게 말하여라.
24 ‘ Yahweh says, “ You shall not go up or fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is from me.”’” So they listened to Yahweh’s word, and returned and went their way, according to Yahweh’s word.Thus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the word of Jehovah, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Jehovah.‘여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 너희는 올라가지도 말고, 너희 형제인 이스라엘 자손과 싸우지도 말아라. 저마다 자기 집으로 돌아가거라. 이 일은 내게서 비롯된 것이다.’” 그리하여 그들은 여호와의 말씀을 듣고, 여호와의 말씀을 따라 돌이켜 자기들의 길로 돌아갔다.
25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there and built Penuel.Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and he went out from thence, and built Penuel.그 후 여로보암은 에브라임 산지에 세겜을 세우고 그곳에서 살았다. 또 그는 거기서 나아가 브누엘을 세웠다.
26 Jeroboam said in his heart, “ Now the kingdom will return to David’s house.And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now will the kingdom return to the house of David:여로보암이 속으로 이렇게 생각하였다. “이제 이 나라가 다윗의 집안으로 되돌아가겠구나.
27 If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”if this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem, then will the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.만일 이 백성이 예루살렘에 있는 여호와의 성전에서 제사를 드리려고 올라간다면, 이 백성의 마음이 그들의 주인인 유다 왕 르호보암에게로 다시 돌아갈 것이다. 그러면 그들은 나를 죽이고 유다 왕 르호보암에게로 돌아갈 것이다.”
28 So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and behold your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.그리하여 왕은 의논한 끝에 금송아지 둘을 만들고 백성에게 말하였다. “너희가 예루살렘에 올라가는 것은 너무 번거롭다. 이스라엘아, 너희를 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 올린 너희 신들을 보아라!”
29 He set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.그는 하나는 벧엘에 두고, 다른 하나는 단에 두었다.
30 This thing became a sin, for the people went even as far as Dan to worship before the one there.And this thing became a sin; for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.이 일이 죄가 되었으니, 백성이 그 하나에게 예배하려고 단까지 갔기 때문이다.
31 He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.And he made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, that were not of the sons of Levi.여로보암은 산당들을 짓고, 레위 자손이 아닌 일반 백성 가운데서 제사장들을 세웠다.
32 Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. He did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made, and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he went up unto the altar; so did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the priests of the high places that he had made.여로보암은 여덟째 달 열닷샛날에 유다에서 지키는 절기와 같은 절기를 정하고, 제단에 올라갔다. 그는 벧엘에서도 그렇게 하여 자기가 만든 송아지들에게 제사를 드렸으며, 자기가 세운 산당의 제사장들을 벧엘에 두었다.
33 He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar to burn incense.And he went up unto the altar which he had made in Beth-el on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up unto the altar, to burn incense.그는 자기가 임의로 정한 달, 곧 여덟째 달 열닷샛날에 벧엘에 자기가 만든 제단에 올라갔다. 그는 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 절기를 정하고, 제단에 올라가 분향하였다.
