1 Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.이제 우상에게 바친 제물에 관해 말하겠습니다. 우리는 모두 지식이 있다는 것을 압니다. 그러나 지식은 사람을 교만하게 하지만, 사랑은 사람을 세웁니다.
2 But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know.If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know;만일 누가 무엇을 안다고 생각한다면, 그는 마땅히 알아야 할 만큼 아직 알지 못하는 것입니다.
3 But anyone who loves God is known by him.but if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.그러나 누구든지 하나님을 사랑하면, 그 사람은 하나님께 알려진 사람입니다.
4 Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God but one.그러므로 우상에게 바친 제물을 먹는 일에 관해 말하자면, 우리는 세상에 우상이란 아무것도 아니며, 오직 한 분 하나님 외에 다른 신이 없다는 것을 압니다.
5 For though there are things that are called “ gods”, whether in the heavens or on earth — as there are many “ gods” and many “ lords”—For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;비록 하늘에나 땅에 신이라 불리는 것들이 있어서, 많은 "신"과 많은 "주"가 있다고 하지만,
6 yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.우리에게는 한 분 하나님, 곧 아버지가 계실 뿐입니다. 모든 것이 그분에게서 나왔고 우리도 그분을 위해 있습니다. 또한 한 분 주 예수 그리스도가 계실 뿐입니다. 모든 것이 그분을 통해 있고 우리도 그분을 통해 삽니다.
7 However, that knowledge isn’ t in all men. But some, with consciousness of an idol until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.Howbeit there is not in all men that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.그러나 이 지식이 모든 사람에게 있는 것은 아닙니다. 어떤 이들은 지금까지 우상에 익숙해져 있어서, 우상에게 바친 제물로 여기며 먹고, 그들의 양심이 약하므로 더럽혀집니다.
8 But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we don’ t eat are we the worse, nor if we eat are we the better.But food will not commend us to God: neither, if we eat not, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.그러나 음식이 우리를 하나님께 인정받게 하지는 못합니다. 우리가 먹지 않는다고 해서 손해 볼 것도 없고, 먹는다고 해서 더 나아질 것도 없습니다.
9 But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to the weak.다만 여러분의 이 자유가 어떤 식으로든 약한 사람에게 걸림돌이 되지 않도록 조심하십시오.
10 For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol’ s temple, won’ t his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?For if a man see thee who hast knowledge sitting at meat in an idol’ s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?지식이 있는 여러분이 우상의 신전에 앉아 먹는 것을 약한 사람이 본다면, 그 약한 양심이 도리어 담대해져서 우상에게 바친 제물을 먹게 되지 않겠습니까?
11 And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.For through thy knowledge he that is weak perisheth, the brother for whose sake Christ died.그래서 여러분의 지식 때문에, 약한 사람 곧 그리스도께서 그를 위해 죽으신 그 형제가 멸망하게 됩니다.
12 Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ.이렇게 형제들에게 죄를 짓고 그들의 약한 양심에 상처를 입히는 것은, 곧 그리스도께 죄를 짓는 것입니다.
13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forever more, that I don’ t cause my brother to stumble.Wherefore, if meat causeth my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I cause not my brother to stumble.그러므로 음식이 내 형제를 걸려 넘어지게 한다면, 나는 내 형제를 넘어지게 하지 않으려고 영원히 고기를 먹지 않겠습니다.
