1 “ I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.나는 참포도나무요, 내 아버지는 농부이시다.
2 Every branch in me that doesn’ t bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit.내게 붙어 있으면서 열매를 맺지 못하는 가지는 모두 아버지께서 잘라 내시고, 열매를 맺는 가지는 더 많은 열매를 맺도록 깨끗이 손질하신다.
3 You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you.너희는 내가 너희에게 일러 준 말씀으로 인해 이미 깨끗하게 되었다.
4 Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’ t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me.내 안에 머물러라. 그러면 나도 너희 안에 머물겠다. 가지가 포도나무에 붙어 있지 않으면 스스로 열매를 맺을 수 없는 것처럼, 너희도 내 안에 머물지 않으면 열매를 맺을 수 없다.
5 I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for apart from me ye can do nothing.나는 포도나무요, 너희는 가지다. 내 안에 머물러 있고 나도 그 안에 머물러 있는 사람은 많은 열매를 맺는다. 나를 떠나서는 너희가 아무것도 할 수 없기 때문이다.
6 If a man doesn’ t remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.누구든지 내 안에 머물러 있지 않으면, 그는 가지처럼 밖에 버려져 말라 버린다. 사람들이 그런 가지들을 모아다가 불 속에 던지면 타 버리고 만다.
7 If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.너희가 내 안에 머물러 있고 내 말이 너희 안에 머물러 있으면, 무엇이든지 원하는 대로 구하여라. 그러면 너희에게 이루어질 것이다.
8 “ In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples.Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and so shall ye be my disciples.너희가 많은 열매를 맺고 그렇게 하여 내 제자가 되면, 이것으로 내 아버지께서 영광을 받으신다.
9 Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love.Even as the Father hath loved me, I also have loved you: abide ye in my love.아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 것처럼 나도 너희를 사랑하였다. 너희는 내 사랑 안에 머물러라.
10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.내가 내 아버지의 계명을 지켜 그분의 사랑 안에 머물러 있는 것처럼, 너희도 내 계명을 지키면 내 사랑 안에 머물러 있게 될 것이다.
11 I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.내가 이것을 너희에게 일러 준 것은, 내 기쁨이 너희 안에 머물러 있게 하고 너희의 기쁨이 가득 차게 하려는 것이다.
12 “ This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you.내가 너희를 사랑한 것처럼 너희도 서로 사랑하여라. 이것이 내 계명이다.
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.친구를 위하여 자기 목숨을 내놓는 것보다 더 큰 사랑은 없다.
14 You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.Ye are my friends, if ye do the things which I command you.너희가 내가 명하는 것을 행하면 너희는 내 친구다.
15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’ t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father I have made known unto you.이제 나는 너희를 종이라고 부르지 않겠다. 종은 자기 주인이 하는 일을 알지 못하기 때문이다. 그러나 나는 너희를 친구라고 불렀다. 내 아버지께 들은 모든 것을 너희에게 알려 주었기 때문이다.
16 You didn’ t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.너희가 나를 택한 것이 아니라 내가 너희를 택하였다. 그리고 너희를 세워, 너희가 나아가 열매를 맺고 그 열매가 늘 남아 있게 하였다. 또한 너희가 내 이름으로 아버지께 구하는 것은 무엇이든지 그분께서 너희에게 주시게 하려는 것이다.
17 “ I command these things to you, that you may love one another.These things I command you, that ye may love one another.내가 이것을 너희에게 명하는 것은 너희가 서로 사랑하게 하려는 것이다.
18 If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you.If the world hateth you, ye know that it hath hated me before it hated you.세상이 너희를 미워하면, 세상이 너희보다 먼저 나를 미워하였음을 알아라.
19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.너희가 세상에 속하였다면 세상은 자기 것을 사랑하였을 것이다. 그러나 너희가 세상에 속하지 않았고 내가 너희를 세상에서 택하여 냈으므로, 세상이 너희를 미워하는 것이다.
20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘ A servant is not greater than his lord.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.내가 너희에게 한 말을 기억하여라. '종이 자기 주인보다 더 높지 못하다.' 사람들이 나를 박해하였으면 너희도 박해할 것이요, 그들이 내 말을 지켰으면 너희 말도 지킬 것이다.
21 But they will do all these things to you for my name’s sake, because they don’ t know him who sent me.But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.그러나 그들은 나를 보내신 분을 알지 못하므로, 내 이름 때문에 이 모든 일을 너희에게 행할 것이다.
22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin.내가 와서 그들에게 말하지 않았더라면 그들에게 죄가 없었을 것이다. 그러나 이제는 그들이 자기 죄에 대해 변명할 수 없게 되었다.
23 He who hates me, hates my Father also.He that hateth me hateth my Father also.나를 미워하는 사람은 내 아버지도 미워한다.
24 If I hadn’ t done among them the works which no one else did, they wouldn’ t have had sin. But now they have seen and also hated both me and my Father.If I had not done among them the works which none other did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.아무도 행하지 못한 일을 내가 그들 가운데서 행하지 않았더라면 그들에게 죄가 없었을 것이다. 그러나 이제는 그들이 나와 내 아버지를 둘 다 보고도 미워하였다.
25 But this happened so that the word may be fulfilled which was written in their law, ‘ They hated me without a cause.’But this cometh to pass, that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.그러나 이것은 그들의 율법에 기록된 말씀, 곧 '그들이 까닭 없이 나를 미워하였다'는 말씀이 이루어지게 하려는 것이다.
26 “ When the Counselor has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me.But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me:내가 아버지께로부터 너희에게 보낼 보혜사, 곧 아버지께로부터 나오시는 진리의 성령이 오시면, 그분이 나를 증언하실 것이다.
27 You will also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.and ye also bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.너희도 처음부터 나와 함께 있었으므로 증언할 것이다.
