1 Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.유월절 엿새 전에 예수께서 베다니로 오셨다. 그곳은 예수께서 죽은 사람 가운데서 살리신 나사로가 있는 곳이었다.
2 So they made him a supper there. Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him.So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him.그래서 그들은 거기서 예수를 위해 잔치를 베풀었다. 마르다는 시중을 들었고, 나사로는 예수와 함께 식탁에 앉은 사람들 가운데 하나였다.
3 Therefore Mary took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. 4 Then Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said,But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that should betray him, saith,그러자 예수를 배신하려던 제자 가운데 하나인 시몬의 아들 가룟 유다가 말했다.
5 “ Why wasn’ t this ointment sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to the poor?"어찌하여 이 향유를 삼백 데나리온에 팔아 가난한 사람들에게 주지 않았는가?"
6 Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag took away what was put therein.그가 이렇게 말한 것은 가난한 사람들을 생각해서가 아니라, 그가 도둑이었고 돈주머니를 맡고 있으면서 거기에 넣어 둔 것을 훔쳐 가곤 했기 때문이다.
7 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.Jesus therefore said, Suffer her to keep it against the day of my burying.그러나 예수께서 말씀하셨다. "그녀를 그냥 두어라. 그녀는 내 장례 날을 위하여 이것을 간직해 온 것이다.
8 For you always have the poor with you, but you don’ t always have me.”For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.가난한 사람들은 언제나 너희와 함께 있지만, 나는 언제나 함께 있지는 않을 것이다."
9 A large crowd therefore of the Jews learned that he was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.유대 사람들 가운데 큰 무리가 예수께서 거기 계신 것을 알고 찾아왔다. 그것은 예수만 보려는 것이 아니라, 예수께서 죽은 사람 가운데서 살리신 나사로도 보려는 것이었다.
10 But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus to death also,But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death;그러나 대제사장들은 나사로까지 죽이려고 모의했다.
11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.나사로 때문에 많은 유대 사람들이 떠나가 예수를 믿게 되었기 때문이다.
12 On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,다음 날, 명절을 지키러 온 큰 무리가 예수께서 예루살렘으로 오신다는 말을 듣고는,
13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, “ Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.종려나무 가지를 들고 예수를 맞으러 나가 외쳤다. "호산나! 주의 이름으로 오시는 분, 이스라엘의 왕께 복이 있도다!"
14 Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,예수께서 어린 나귀를 보시고 그 위에 올라타셨으니, 이는 기록된 바와 같았다.
15 “Don’ t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt."시온의 딸아, 두려워하지 말라. 보라, 네 왕이 나귀 새끼를 타고 오신다."
16 His disciples didn’ t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.그분의 제자들은 처음에는 이 일들을 깨닫지 못했으나, 예수께서 영광을 받으신 뒤에야 이 일들이 그분에 관하여 기록되었고 사람들이 그분께 이대로 행하였음을 기억하게 되었다.
17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it.The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness.예수께서 나사로를 무덤에서 불러내어 죽은 사람 가운데서 살리실 때 함께 있던 무리가 그 일을 증언하였다.
18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.무리가 예수를 맞으러 나간 것도 그분이 이 표적을 행하셨다는 말을 들었기 때문이다.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “ See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing; lo, the world is gone after him.그래서 바리새 사람들은 자기들끼리 말했다. "보라, 너희가 아무것도 이루지 못하는구나. 보라, 온 세상이 그를 따라가 버렸다."
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast:명절에 예배하러 올라온 사람들 가운데 어떤 그리스 사람들이 있었다.
21 Therefore, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “ Sir, we want to see Jesus.”these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.그들이 갈릴리 벳새다 출신인 빌립에게 와서 청했다. "선생님, 우리가 예수를 뵙고 싶습니다."
22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell Jesus.빌립이 가서 안드레에게 말하고, 안드레가 빌립과 함께 와서 예수께 말씀드렸다.
23 Jesus answered them, “ The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.예수께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. "인자가 영광을 받을 때가 왔다.
24 Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.진실로 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 밀알 하나가 땅에 떨어져 죽지 않으면 그것은 한 알 그대로 남아 있다. 그러나 그것이 죽으면 많은 열매를 맺는다.
25 He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.자기 생명을 사랑하는 사람은 그것을 잃을 것이요, 이 세상에서 자기 생명을 미워하는 사람은 그것을 지켜 영원한 생명에 이를 것이다.
26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.누구든지 나를 섬기려거든 나를 따르라. 내가 있는 곳에 내 종도 있을 것이다. 누구든지 나를 섬기면 아버지께서 그를 귀히 여기실 것이다.
27 “ Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘ Father, save me from this time’? But I came to this time for this cause.Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.지금 내 마음이 괴롭다. 무슨 말을 하랴? '아버지여, 이때에서 나를 구원하소서' 할까? 그러나 나는 바로 이를 위하여 이때에 이른 것이다.
28 Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came out of the sky, saying, “ I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.아버지여, 아버지의 이름을 영광스럽게 하소서!" 그때 하늘에서 소리가 들려왔다. "내가 이미 영광스럽게 하였고, 또다시 영광스럽게 할 것이다."
29 Therefore the multitude who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “ An angel has spoken to him.”The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.곁에 서서 그 소리를 들은 무리가 천둥이 쳤다고 말했다. 다른 사람들은 "천사가 그에게 말했다"고 했다.
30 Jesus answered, “ This voice hasn’ t come for my sake, but for your sakes.Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.예수께서 대답하셨다. "이 소리가 들려온 것은 나를 위해서가 아니라 너희를 위해서다.
31 Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.이제 이 세상이 심판을 받는다. 이제 이 세상의 임금이 쫓겨날 것이다.
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.그리고 내가 땅에서 들리면, 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌 것이다."
33 But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.But this he said, signifying by what manner of death he should die.그분이 이렇게 말씀하신 것은 자신이 어떤 죽음으로 죽을 것인지를 나타내신 것이다.
34 The multitude answered him, “ We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever. How do you say, ‘ The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?무리가 예수께 대답했다. "우리는 율법에서 그리스도가 영원히 계신다고 들었습니다. 그런데 어찌하여 당신은 '인자가 들려야 한다'고 말하십니까? 이 인자는 누구입니까?"
35 Jesus therefore said to them, “ Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’ t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’ t know where he is going.Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.그러자 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "아직 잠시 동안 빛이 너희와 함께 있다. 빛이 있는 동안에 걸어라. 그래야 어둠이 너희를 덮치지 못한다. 어둠 속을 걷는 사람은 자기가 어디로 가는지 알지 못한다.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.빛이 있는 동안에 그 빛을 믿어라. 그러면 너희가 빛의 자녀가 될 것이다." 예수께서 이 말씀을 하시고는 떠나가 그들에게서 몸을 숨기셨다.
37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him,But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him:예수께서 그들 앞에서 그토록 많은 표적을 행하셨으나, 그들은 여전히 예수를 믿지 않았다.
38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “ Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?이는 선지자 이사야가 한 말씀을 이루려는 것이었다. "주여, 누가 우리가 전한 것을 믿었습니까? 주의 팔이 누구에게 나타났습니까?"
39 For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again:For this cause they could not believe, for that Isaiah said again,그들이 믿을 수 없었던 까닭을 이사야가 또 이렇게 말하였다.
40 “ He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and would turn, and I would heal them.”He hath blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, And should turn, And I should heal them."그분이 그들의 눈을 멀게 하시고 그들의 마음을 완고하게 하셨으니, 이는 그들이 눈으로 보고 마음으로 깨달아 돌아와 내게 고침을 받지 못하게 하려는 것이다."
41 Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory; and he spake of him.이사야가 이렇게 말한 것은 그가 그분의 영광을 보고 그분에 관하여 말한 것이다.
42 Nevertheless, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they didn’ t confess it, so that they wouldn’ t be put out of the synagogue,Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:그럼에도 관리들 가운데서도 많은 사람이 예수를 믿었으나, 바리새 사람들 때문에 그것을 드러내어 고백하지 못했으니, 회당에서 쫓겨나지 않으려는 것이었다.
43 for they loved men’s praise more than God’s praise.for they loved the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.이는 그들이 하나님의 영광보다 사람의 영광을 더 사랑했기 때문이다.
44 Jesus cried out and said, “ Whoever believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me.And Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.예수께서 외쳐 말씀하셨다. "나를 믿는 사람은 나를 믿는 것이 아니라 나를 보내신 분을 믿는 것이다.
45 He who sees me sees him who sent me.And he that beholdeth me beholdeth him that sent me.나를 보는 사람은 나를 보내신 분을 보는 것이다.
46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not abide in the darkness.나는 빛으로 이 세상에 왔으니, 나를 믿는 사람은 누구든지 어둠 속에 머물지 않게 하려는 것이다.
47 If anyone listens to my sayings and doesn’ t believe, I don’ t judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.And if any man hear my sayings, and keep them not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.누구든지 내 말을 듣고도 믿지 않는다 해도 나는 그를 심판하지 않는다. 나는 세상을 심판하러 온 것이 아니라 세상을 구원하러 왔기 때문이다.
48 He who rejects me, and doesn’ t receive my sayings, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke will judge him in the last day.He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day.나를 거부하고 내 말을 받아들이지 않는 사람에게는 그를 심판하는 이가 있으니, 곧 내가 한 말씀이 마지막 날에 그를 심판할 것이다.
49 For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak.For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he hath given me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.나는 내 스스로 말한 것이 아니라, 나를 보내신 아버지께서 내가 무엇을 말하고 무엇을 이야기할지 친히 명령하셨다.
50 I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things therefore which I speak, even as the Father has said to me, so I speak.”And I know that his commandment is life eternal; the things therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak.나는 그분의 명령이 영원한 생명임을 안다. 그러므로 내가 말하는 것은 아버지께서 내게 말씀하신 그대로 말하는 것이다."
