1 After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’ t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judæa, because the Jews sought to kill him.이 일들이 있은 뒤에 예수께서는 갈릴리에서 다니셨다. 유대 사람들이 그분을 죽이려 하였기 때문에 유대 지방에서는 다니려 하지 않으셨다.
2 Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand.그때에 유대 사람들의 명절인 초막절이 가까웠다.
3 His brothers therefore said to him, “ Depart from here and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judæa, that thy disciples also may behold thy works which thou doest.그래서 예수의 형제들이 그분께 말하였다. "이곳을 떠나 유대 지방으로 가십시오. 그래서 당신의 제자들도 당신이 하시는 일들을 보게 하십시오.
4 For no one does anything in secret while he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world.드러나게 알려지기를 바라면서 몰래 일하는 사람은 없습니다. 이런 일들을 하시려거든 자신을 세상에 드러내십시오."
5 For even his brothers didn’ t believe in him.For even his brethren did not believe on him.그분의 형제들조차 그분을 믿지 않았기 때문이다.
6 Jesus therefore said to them, “ My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.Jesus therefore saith unto them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.그래서 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "내 때는 아직 오지 않았으나 너희의 때는 언제나 준비되어 있다.
7 The world can’ t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.세상은 너희를 미워할 수 없으나 나는 미워한다. 내가 세상의 행위가 악하다고 증언하기 때문이다.
8 You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”Go ye up unto the feast: I go not up unto this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled.너희는 명절을 지키러 올라가라. 나는 아직 이 명절에 올라가지 않겠다. 내 때가 아직 차지 않았기 때문이다."
9 Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.And having said these things unto them, he abode still in Galilee.이 말씀들을 그들에게 하시고 그분은 갈릴리에 머무르셨다.
10 But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.But when his brethren were gone up unto the feast, then went he also up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.그러나 그분의 형제들이 명절을 지키러 올라간 뒤에 그분도 올라가셨는데, 드러나게가 아니라 은밀히 가시듯 하셨다.
11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “ Where is he?”The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?그래서 유대 사람들이 명절에 그분을 찾으며 말하였다. "그 사람이 어디에 있느냐?"
12 There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “ He is a good man.” Others said, “ Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”And there was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him: some said, He is a good man; others said, Not so, but he leadeth the multitude astray.무리 가운데서 그분에 관해 수군거림이 많았다. 어떤 이들은 "그는 선한 사람이다" 하고, 다른 이들은 "아니다, 그는 무리를 미혹한다" 하였다.
13 Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.Yet no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.그러나 유대 사람들이 두려워서 아무도 그분에 관해 드러나게 말하지 못하였다.
14 But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.명절이 중간에 이르렀을 때 예수께서 성전에 올라가 가르치셨다.
15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “ How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”The Jews therefore marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?그래서 유대 사람들이 놀라며 말하였다. "이 사람은 배운 적이 없는데 어떻게 글을 아는가?"
16 Jesus therefore answered them, “ My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.Jesus therefore answered them, and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me.그래서 예수께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. "내 가르침은 내 것이 아니라 나를 보내신 분의 것이다.
17 If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God or if I am speaking from myself.If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or whether I speak from myself.누구든지 그분의 뜻을 행하려 하면 이 가르침이 하나님께로부터 온 것인지, 아니면 내가 내 스스로 말하는 것인지 알게 될 것이다.
18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.스스로 말하는 사람은 자기 영광을 구하지만, 자기를 보내신 분의 영광을 구하는 사람은 참되며 그 안에 불의가 없다.
19 Didn’ t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you doeth the law? Why seek ye to kill me?모세가 너희에게 율법을 주지 않았느냐? 그런데도 너희 가운데 아무도 율법을 지키지 않는다. 너희가 어찌하여 나를 죽이려 하느냐?"
20 The multitude answered, “ You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”The multitude answered, Thou hast a demon: who seeketh to kill thee?무리가 대답하였다. "당신은 귀신이 들렸소! 누가 당신을 죽이려 한다는 말이오?"
21 Jesus answered them, “ I did one work and you all marvel because of it.Jesus answered and said unto them, I did one work, and ye all marvel because thereof.예수께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. "내가 한 가지 일을 하였는데 너희가 모두 그 일로 놀라는구나.
22 Moses has given you circumcision ( not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers ), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.Moses hath given you circumcision ( not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers ); and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man.모세가 너희에게 할례를 주었는데(이는 모세에게서 난 것이 아니라 조상들에게서 난 것이다) 너희는 안식일에도 사내아이에게 할례를 행한다.
23 If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?If a man receiveth circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye wroth with me, because I made a man every whit whole on the sabbath?모세의 율법이 깨지지 않게 하려고 안식일에 사람이 할례를 받는데, 내가 안식일에 사람을 완전히 건강하게 하였다고 해서 너희가 나에게 화를 내느냐?
24 Don’ t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.겉모양으로 판단하지 말고 의로운 판단으로 판단하여라."
25 Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’ t this he whom they seek to kill?Some therefore of them of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?그래서 예루살렘 사람들 가운데 어떤 이들이 말하였다. "이 사람이 그들이 죽이려 하는 그 사람이 아닌가?
26 Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?And lo, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing unto him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ?보라, 그가 드러나게 말하는데도 그들이 그에게 아무 말도 하지 않는다. 관원들이 이 사람이 참으로 그리스도인 줄을 정말로 아는 것은 아닐까?
27 However, we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.”Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.그러나 우리는 이 사람이 어디서 왔는지 안다. 그리스도가 오실 때에는 그가 어디서 오는지 아무도 알지 못할 것이다."
28 Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “ You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’ t know.Jesus therefore cried in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me, and know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.그래서 예수께서 성전에서 가르치시며 외쳐 말씀하셨다. "너희가 나를 알고 내가 어디서 왔는지도 안다. 그러나 나는 내 스스로 온 것이 아니다. 나를 보내신 분은 참되시며, 너희는 그분을 알지 못한다.
29 I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.나는 그분을 안다. 내가 그분에게서 왔고 그분이 나를 보내셨기 때문이다."
30 They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.그래서 그들이 그분을 잡으려 하였으나 아무도 그분에게 손을 대지 못하였다. 그분의 때가 아직 이르지 않았기 때문이다.
31 But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “ When the Christ comes, he won’ t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done?그러나 무리 가운데 많은 사람이 그분을 믿으며 말하였다. "그리스도가 오신다 해도 이 사람이 행한 것보다 더 많은 표적을 행하시겠는가?"
32 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him.바리새 사람들이 무리가 그분에 관해 수군거리는 것을 들었다. 그래서 대제사장들과 바리새 사람들이 그분을 체포하려고 성전 경비병들을 보냈다.
33 Then Jesus said, “ I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him that sent me.그때 예수께서 말씀하셨다. "내가 너희와 함께 있을 날이 조금 더 남았다. 그 뒤에 나는 나를 보내신 분에게로 간다.
34 You will seek me and won’t find me. You can’t come where I am.”Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come.너희가 나를 찾겠으나 만나지 못할 것이다. 내가 있는 곳에 너희는 올 수 없다."
35 The Jews therefore said among themselves, “ Where will this man go that we won’ t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go that we shall not find him? will he go unto the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?그래서 유대 사람들이 자기들끼리 말하였다. "이 사람이 우리가 만나지 못할 어디로 가려는 것인가? 그리스 사람들 가운데 흩어져 사는 이들에게로 가서 그리스 사람들을 가르치려는 것인가?
36 What is this word that he said, ‘ You will seek me, and won’ t find me;’ and ‘ Where I am, you can’ t come’?”What is this word that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come?'너희가 나를 찾겠으나 만나지 못할 것이다. 내가 있는 곳에 너희는 올 수 없다'고 한 이 말이 무슨 뜻인가?"
37 Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “ If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.명절의 마지막 날 곧 가장 큰 날에 예수께서 서서 외쳐 말씀하셨다. "누구든지 목마르거든 내게로 와서 마셔라!
38 He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers of living water.나를 믿는 사람은 성경이 말한 것같이 그 속에서 생수의 강이 흘러나올 것이다."
39 But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’ t yet glorified.But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.이 말씀은 그분을 믿는 사람들이 받게 될 성령에 관해 하신 것이다. 예수께서 아직 영광을 받지 않으셨으므로 성령이 아직 주어지지 않았기 때문이다.
40 Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “ This is truly the prophet.”Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet.무리 가운데 많은 사람이 이 말씀들을 듣고 말하였다. "이분은 참으로 그 선지자다."
41 Others said, “ This is the Christ.” But some said, “ What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee?다른 이들은 "이분은 그리스도다" 하였다. 그러나 어떤 이들은 "그리스도가 갈릴리에서 나오겠는가?
42 Hasn’ t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?성경이 그리스도는 다윗의 후손에서, 또 다윗이 살던 마을 베들레헴에서 나온다고 말하지 않았는가?" 하였다.
43 So a division arose in the multitude because of him.So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.그래서 그분 때문에 무리 가운데 분열이 일어났다.
44 Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.그들 가운데 더러는 그분을 체포하려 하였으나 아무도 그분에게 손을 대지 못하였다.
45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, “ Why didn’ t you bring him?”The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why did ye not bring him?그래서 성전 경비병들이 대제사장들과 바리새 사람들에게로 돌아오니, 그들이 경비병들에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 그를 데려오지 않았느냐?"
46 The officers answered, “ No man ever spoke like this man!”The officers answered, Never man so spake.경비병들이 대답하였다. "이 사람처럼 말한 사람은 지금까지 아무도 없었습니다!"
47 The Pharisees therefore answered them, “ You aren’ t also led astray, are you?The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also led astray?그래서 바리새 사람들이 그들에게 대답하였다. "너희도 미혹된 것이 아니냐?
48 Have any of the rulers or any of the Pharisees believed in him?Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?관원들이나 바리새 사람들 가운데 그를 믿은 자가 있느냐?
49 But this multitude that doesn’ t know the law is cursed.”But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed.그러나 율법을 알지 못하는 이 무리는 저주받은 자들이다."
50 Nicodemus ( he who came to him by night, being one of them ) said to them,Nicodemus saith unto them ( he that came to him before, being one of them ),그들 가운데 한 사람이며 전에 밤에 그분께 왔던 니고데모가 그들에게 말하였다.
51 “ Does our law judge a man unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth?"우리 율법이 먼저 그 사람에게서 직접 듣고 그가 무엇을 하는지 알지 못하고서야 그를 판단하느냐?"
52 They answered him, “ Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.그들이 그에게 대답하였다. "너도 갈릴리에서 났느냐? 찾아보아라. 그러면 갈릴리에서는 선지자가 나오지 않는다는 것을 알게 될 것이다."
53 Everyone went to his own house,[ And they went every man unto his own house:그리고 사람들은 저마다 자기 집으로 돌아갔다.
