1 Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and behold, it was the latter growth after the king’s harvest.Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.주 여호와께서 나에게 이렇게 보여 주셨다. 보라, 그분께서 메뚜기 떼를 지으셨는데, 그때는 늦게 자라는 풀이 막 돋아나기 시작할 무렵이었다. 그것은 왕이 거두어 간 뒤에 다시 자라난 풀이었다.
2 When they finished eating the grass of the land, then I said, “ Lord Yahweh, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”And it came to pass that, when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord Jehovah, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.메뚜기 떼가 그 땅의 풀을 다 먹어 치웠을 때, 내가 말하였다. "주 여호와여, 비옵나니 용서하여 주십시오! 야곱이 어떻게 견디겠습니까? 그는 작은 자입니다."
3 Yahweh relented concerning this. “ It shall not be,” says Yahweh.Jehovah repented concerning this: It shall not be, saith Jehovah.여호와께서 이 일을 두고 마음을 돌이키셨다. "그렇게 되지 않을 것이다." 여호와께서 말씀하셨다.
4 Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: behold, the Lord Yahweh called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land.Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, the Lord Jehovah called to contend by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and would have eaten up the land.주 여호와께서 나에게 이렇게 보여 주셨다. 보라, 주 여호와께서 불로 심판하려고 부르셨는데, 그 불이 큰 깊은 바다를 말리고 그 땅까지 삼키려 하였다.
5 Then I said, “ Lord Yahweh, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.”Then said I, O Lord Jehovah, cease, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.그때 내가 말하였다. "주 여호와여, 비옵나니 멈추어 주십시오! 야곱이 어떻게 견디겠습니까? 그는 작은 자입니다."
6 Yahweh relented concerning this. “ This also shall not be,” says the Lord Yahweh.Jehovah repented concerning this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord Jehovah.여호와께서 이 일을 두고 마음을 돌이키셨다. "이 일도 그렇게 되지 않을 것이다." 주 여호와께서 말씀하셨다.
7 Thus he showed me: behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand.Thus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand.그분께서 나에게 이렇게 보여 주셨다. 보라, 주께서 다림줄로 쌓은 담 곁에 서 계셨는데, 손에는 다림줄을 들고 계셨다.
8 Yahweh said to me, “ Amos, what do you see?” I said, “ A plumb line.” Then the Lord said, “ Behold, I will set a plumb line in the middle of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.And Jehovah said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb-line. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more;여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. "아모스야, 무엇이 보이느냐?" 내가 대답하였다. "다림줄입니다." 그러자 주께서 말씀하셨다. "보라, 내가 내 백성 이스라엘 가운데 다림줄을 두겠다. 내가 다시는 그들을 그냥 지나치지 않겠다.
9 The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”and the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.이삭의 산당들이 황폐해지고 이스라엘의 성소들이 폐허가 될 것이며, 내가 칼을 들고 여로보암의 집을 치러 일어나겠다."
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “ Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.그러자 벧엘의 제사장 아마샤가 이스라엘 왕 여로보암에게 사람을 보내어 말하였다. "아모스가 이스라엘 집 한가운데서 임금님을 거슬러 음모를 꾸미고 있습니다. 이 땅이 그의 모든 말을 감당하지 못합니다.
11 For Amos says, ‘ Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.아모스가 이렇게 말합니다. '여로보암은 칼에 죽고, 이스라엘은 반드시 사로잡혀 그 땅에서 떠나가게 될 것이다.'"
12 Amaziah also said to Amos, “ You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there,Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thou away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:아마샤가 또 아모스에게 말하였다. "선견자야, 너는 유다 땅으로 도망쳐서 거기서 밥벌이나 하며 거기서 예언하여라.
13 but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”but prophesy not again any more at Beth-el; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house.그러나 다시는 벧엘에서 예언하지 마라. 이곳은 왕의 성소요, 왕실이 있는 곳이다!"
14 Then Amos answered Amaziah, “ I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was a herdsman, and a dresser of sycomore-trees:그러자 아모스가 아마샤에게 대답하였다. "나는 선지자도 아니었고 선지자의 아들도 아니었다. 나는 목자였고 뽕나무를 재배하는 농부였다.
15 and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, ‘ Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’and Jehovah took me from following the flock, and Jehovah said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.그런데 여호와께서 양 떼를 따르던 나를 데려오시고, 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. '가서 내 백성 이스라엘에게 예언하여라.'
16 Now therefore listen to Yahweh’s word: ‘ You say, Don’t prophesy against Israel, and don’t preach against the house of Isaac.’Now therefore hear thou the word of Jehovah: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac;그러므로 이제 여호와의 말씀을 들어라. 네가 말하기를 '이스라엘을 거슬러 예언하지 말고, 이삭의 집을 거슬러 외치지 마라' 하였다.
17 Therefore Yahweh says: ‘ Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.’”therefore thus saith Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou thyself shalt die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.그러므로 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. '네 아내는 성읍에서 창녀가 될 것이고, 네 아들들과 딸들은 칼에 쓰러질 것이며, 네 땅은 측량줄로 나뉠 것이다. 너는 부정한 땅에서 죽을 것이고, 이스라엘은 반드시 사로잡혀 그 땅에서 떠나가게 될 것이다.'"
