1 On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.On that night could not the king sleep; and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles, and they were read before the king.그날 밤 왕은 잠을 이루지 못하여, 역대 일기 곧 궁중 기록의 책을 가져오게 하였고, 그것을 왕 앞에서 읽었다.
2 It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, of those that kept the threshold, who had sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.그 기록에는 모르드개가 왕의 두 내시 곧 문을 지키던 빅다나와 데레스가 아하수에로 왕을 해치려고 손을 대려 했던 일을 고발한 것이 적혀 있었다.
3 The king said, “ What honor and dignity has been given to Mordecai for this?” Then the king’s servants who attended him said, “ Nothing has been done for him.”And the king said, What honor and dignity hath been bestowed on Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.왕이 말하였다. "이 일로 모르드개에게 무슨 존귀와 영예를 베풀었느냐?" 그러자 왕을 모시던 신하들이 대답하였다. "그를 위해 아무것도 한 일이 없습니다."
4 The king said, “ Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.왕이 말하였다. "지금 뜰에 누가 있느냐?" 그때 하만은 자기가 모르드개를 매달려고 세워 둔 교수대에 그를 매달자고 왕에게 아뢰려고 막 왕궁 바깥뜰에 들어와 있었다.
5 The king’s servants said to him, “ Behold, Haman stands in the court.” The king said, “Let him come in.”And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.왕의 신하들이 왕에게 아뢰었다. "보십시오, 하만이 뜰에 서 있습니다." 왕이 말하였다. "들어오게 하라."
6 So Haman came in. The king said to him, “ What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “ Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor? Now Haman said in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?그래서 하만이 들어왔다. 왕이 그에게 말하였다. "왕이 영예를 베풀고자 하는 사람에게는 무엇을 해 주어야 하겠느냐?" 그때 하만은 속으로 생각하였다. "왕이 나보다 더 영예를 베풀고자 할 사람이 누가 있겠는가?"
7 Haman said to the king, “ For the man whom the king delights to honor,And Haman said unto the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honor,그래서 하만이 왕에게 아뢰었다. "왕께서 영예를 베풀고자 하시는 사람에게는,
8 let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set.let royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and on the head of which a crown royal is set:왕이 입으시는 왕복을 가져오게 하시고, 왕이 타시는 말 곧 그 머리에 왕관을 씌운 말을 끌어오게 하소서.
9 Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘ Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’”and let the apparel and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man therewith whom the king delighteth to honor, and cause him to ride on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor.그 왕복과 말을 왕의 가장 존귀한 신하 가운데 한 사람의 손에 맡기시어, 왕께서 영예를 베풀고자 하시는 그 사람에게 옷을 입히게 하시고, 그를 말에 태워 성읍의 광장으로 다니게 하시며, 그 앞에서 '왕이 영예를 베풀고자 하시는 사람에게는 이같이 하느니라!' 하고 외치게 하소서."
10 Then the king said to Haman, “ Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.”Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.그러자 왕이 하만에게 말하였다. "서둘러 네 말대로 그 왕복과 말을 가져다가, 대궐 문에 앉아 있는 유다 사람 모르드개에게 그대로 행하여라. 네가 말한 것에서 하나도 빠뜨리지 말아라."
11 Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “ Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and caused him to ride through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor.그래서 하만은 그 왕복과 말을 가져다가 모르드개에게 옷을 입히고, 그를 말에 태워 성읍의 광장으로 다니게 하며, 그 앞에서 "왕이 영예를 베풀고자 하시는 사람에게는 이같이 하느니라!" 하고 외쳤다.
12 Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered.And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house, mourning and having his head covered.모르드개는 다시 대궐 문으로 돌아왔으나, 하만은 슬퍼하며 머리를 가린 채 서둘러 자기 집으로 갔다.
13 Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “ If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.”And Haman recounted unto Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai, before whom thou hast begun to fall, be of the seed of the Jews, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.하만은 자기에게 일어난 모든 일을 아내 세레스와 모든 친구에게 이야기하였다. 그러자 그의 지혜로운 자들과 아내 세레스가 그에게 말하였다. "당신이 그 앞에서 넘어지기 시작한 모르드개가 유다 사람의 자손이라면, 당신은 그를 이기지 못하고 반드시 그 앞에서 넘어지고 말 것입니다."
14 While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.While they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.그들이 아직 그와 더불어 이야기하고 있을 때에, 왕의 내시들이 와서 에스더가 마련한 잔치에 하만을 데려가려고 서둘렀다.
