1 Now when Mordecai found out all that was done, Mordecai tore his clothes and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the middle of the city, and wailed loudly and bitterly.Now when Mordecai knew all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;모르드개는 일어난 모든 일을 알게 되자, 자기 옷을 찢고 굵은 베옷을 입고 재를 뒤집어쓴 채 성읍 한복판으로 나가 큰 소리로 비통하게 울부짖었습니다.
2 He came even before the king’s gate, for no one is allowed inside the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.and he came even before the king’s gate: for none might enter within the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.그는 왕궁 문 앞까지 갔으나, 굵은 베옷을 입은 사람은 누구도 왕궁 문 안으로 들어갈 수 없었습니다.
3 In every province, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.And in every province, whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.왕의 명령과 조서가 이르는 곳마다 모든 지방의 유다 사람들 가운데 큰 슬픔이 있었습니다. 그들은 금식하며 울며 통곡했고, 많은 이들이 굵은 베옷을 입고 재 위에 누웠습니다.
4 Esther’s maidens and her eunuchs came and told her this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved. She sent clothing to Mordecai, to replace his sackcloth, but he didn’t receive it.And Esther’s maidens and her chamberlains came and told it her; and the queen was exceedingly grieved: and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take his sackcloth from off him; but he received it not.에스더의 시녀들과 내시들이 와서 이 일을 알리자, 왕비는 몹시 괴로워했습니다. 에스더는 모르드개에게 옷을 보내어 굵은 베옷을 벗기려 했으나, 그는 받지 않았습니다.
5 Then Esther called for Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs, whom he had appointed to attend her, and commanded him to go to Mordecai, to find out what this was, and why it was.Then called Esther for Hathach, one of the king’s chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and charged him to go to Mordecai, to know what this was, and why it was.그러자 에스더는 왕이 자기를 시중들도록 세운 내시 가운데 하나인 하닥을 불러, 모르드개에게 가서 이것이 무슨 일이며 어찌 된 까닭인지 알아 오라고 명했습니다.
6 So Hathach went out to Mordecai, to the city square which was before the king’s gate.So Hathach went forth to Mordecai unto the broad place of the city, which was before the king’s gate.그래서 하닥은 왕궁 문 앞에 있는 성읍 광장으로 모르드개에게 나아갔습니다.
7 Mordecai told him of all that had happened to him, and the exact sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the destruction of the Jews.And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and the exact sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.모르드개는 자기에게 일어난 모든 일과, 하만이 유다 사람들을 멸하려고 왕의 금고에 바치겠다고 약속한 돈의 정확한 액수를 그에게 말해 주었습니다.
8 He also gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Susa to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to urge her to go in to the king to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people.Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Shushan to destroy them, to show it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him, for her people.또 그는 유다 사람들을 멸하려고 수산에서 반포된 조서의 사본을 하닥에게 주어, 에스더에게 보이고 알려 주게 했습니다. 그리고 에스더가 왕에게 나아가 자기 백성을 위하여 간청하고 탄원하도록 권하라고 부탁했습니다.
9 Hathach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.And Hathach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.하닥이 와서 모르드개의 말을 에스더에게 전했습니다.
10 Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a message to Mordecai:Then Esther spake unto Hathach, and gave him a message unto Mordecai, saying:그러자 에스더는 하닥에게 말하여 모르드개에게 전할 말을 주었습니다.
11 “ All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days."왕의 모든 신하와 왕이 다스리는 지방의 백성은 다 압니다. 남자든 여자든 부름을 받지 않고 안뜰로 왕에게 나아가는 자는 누구나 죽임을 당한다는 한 가지 법이 있습니다. 다만 왕이 금홀을 내밀어 주는 사람만 살 수 있습니다. 그런데 나는 이 삼십 일 동안 왕께 나아오라는 부름을 받지 못했습니다."
12 They told Esther’s words to Mordecai.And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words.사람들이 에스더의 말을 모르드개에게 전했습니다.
13 Then Mordecai asked them to return this answer to Esther: “Don’t think to yourself that you will escape in the king’s house any more than all the Jews.Then Mordecai bade them return answer unto Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.그러자 모르드개는 그들에게 에스더에게 이렇게 답하라고 했습니다. "당신은 왕궁에 있다고 해서 모든 유다 사람과 달리 혼자만 피할 수 있으리라고 생각하지 마십시오.
14 For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Who knows if you haven’t come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then will relief and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place, but thou and thy father’s house will perish: and who knoweth whether thou art not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?만일 당신이 지금 잠잠히 있으면, 유다 사람들은 다른 곳에서 안도와 구원을 얻겠지만, 당신과 당신 아버지의 집안은 망할 것입니다. 당신이 이런 때를 위하여 왕비의 자리에 오른 것인지 누가 알겠습니까?"
15 Then Esther asked them to answer Mordecai,Then Esther bade them return answer unto Mordecai,그러자 에스더는 그들에게 모르드개에게 이렇게 답하라고 했습니다.
16 “ Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast in like manner; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish."가서 수산에 있는 모든 유다 사람을 모으고, 나를 위하여 금식하되 삼 일 동안 밤낮으로 먹지도 마시지도 마십시오. 나와 내 시녀들도 같이 금식하겠습니다. 그런 다음 법을 어기더라도 내가 왕께 나아가겠습니다. 죽으면 죽으리이다."
