1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.유다 왕 여호야김이 다스린 지 삼 년째 되던 해에, 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살이 예루살렘으로 쳐들어와 그 성을 에워쌌습니다.
2 The Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god. 3 The king spoke to Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, even of the royal offspring and of the nobles:And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in certain of the children of Israel, even of the seed royal and of the nobles;왕이 환관장 아스부나스에게 명하여, 이스라엘 자손 가운데 왕족과 귀족 출신 몇 사람을 데려오게 하였습니다.
4 youths in whom was no defect, but well-favored, skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding science, and who had the ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.youths in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skilful in all wisdom, and endued with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.흠이 없고 용모가 준수하며 온갖 지혜에 능통하고 지식을 갖추었으며 학문을 깨달아 왕궁에서 섬길 만한 능력이 있는 젊은이들을 골랐습니다. 그리고 그들에게 갈대아 사람의 학문과 언어를 가르치게 하였습니다.
5 The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years, that at its end they should stand before the king.And the king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s dainties, and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years; that at the end thereof they should stand before the king.왕은 그들에게 자기가 먹는 진미와 마시는 포도주를 날마다 정해진 분량으로 주게 하고, 삼 년 동안 길러서 그 기간이 끝나면 왕 앞에 서게 하려 하였습니다.
6 Now among these of the children of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.Now among these were, of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.이들 가운데 유다 자손으로는 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴가 있었습니다.
7 The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.And the prince of the eunuchs gave names unto them: unto Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.환관장은 그들에게 다른 이름을 지어 주었습니다. 다니엘에게는 벨드사살, 하나냐에게는 사드락, 미사엘에게는 메삭, 아사랴에게는 아벳느고라는 이름을 주었습니다.
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. 9 Now God made Daniel find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.Now God made Daniel to find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.하나님께서 다니엘이 환관장에게 인자함과 긍휼을 얻게 하셨습니다.
10 The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “ I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink. For why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? Then you would endanger my head with the king.”And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your food and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths that are of your own age? so would ye endanger my head with the king.환관장이 다니엘에게 말하였습니다. "내가 내 주이신 왕을 두려워하오. 왕께서 그대들이 먹고 마실 것을 정해 주셨는데, 왜 그대들의 얼굴이 그대 또래의 젊은이들보다 못해 보이게 한단 말이오? 그러면 그대들 때문에 내 목이 왕 앞에서 위태로워질 것이오."
11 Then Daniel said to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:Then said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:그러자 다니엘은 환관장이 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴를 맡긴 감독관에게 말하였습니다.
12 “ Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink."부디 종들을 열흘 동안 시험해 보십시오. 우리에게 채소를 먹게 하고 물을 마시게 해 주십시오.
13 Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the youths that eat of the king’s dainties; and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.그런 다음 우리의 얼굴과 왕의 진미를 먹는 젊은이들의 얼굴을 살펴보시고, 보시는 대로 종들을 대해 주십시오."
14 So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days.So he hearkened unto them in this matter, and proved them ten days.감독관은 이 일에 대해 그들의 말을 들어주어 열흘 동안 시험해 보았습니다.
15 At the end of ten days, their faces appeared fairer and they were fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate of the king’s delicacies.And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer, and they were fatter in flesh, than all the youths that did eat of the king’s dainties.열흘이 지나니, 그들의 얼굴이 왕의 진미를 먹는 모든 젊은이보다 더 좋아 보였고 살도 더 올라 있었습니다.
16 So the steward took away their delicacies and the wine that they were given to drink, and gave them vegetables.So the steward took away their dainties, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse.그래서 감독관은 그들이 먹을 진미와 마실 포도주를 거두고, 대신 채소를 주었습니다.

18 At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.And at the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.왕이 그들을 데려오라고 정한 기한이 끝나자, 환관장이 그들을 느부갓네살 앞으로 데려갔습니다.
19 The king talked with them; and among them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood before the king.And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.왕이 그들과 이야기를 나누어 보니, 그 모두 가운데 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴 같은 사람이 없었습니다. 그래서 그들은 왕 앞에 서서 섬기게 되었습니다.
20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.And in every matter of wisdom and understanding, concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his realm.왕이 그들에게 물어보는 모든 지혜와 명철의 일에서, 왕은 그들이 자기 온 나라 안에 있는 모든 마술사와 주술사보다 열 배나 더 낫다는 것을 알게 되었습니다.
21 Daniel continued even to the first year of King Cyrus.And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.다니엘은 고레스 왕 원년까지 그 자리에 있었습니다.
