1 Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.믿음은 우리가 바라는 것들에 대한 확신이며, 보이지 않는 것들에 대한 증거입니다.
2 For by this, the elders obtained approval.For therein the elders had witness borne to them.옛 사람들은 바로 이 믿음으로 인정을 받았습니다.
3 By faith we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.By faith we understand that the worlds have been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen hath not been made out of things which appear.믿음으로 우리는 온 우주가 하나님의 말씀으로 지어졌음을 깨닫습니다. 그래서 보이는 것은 보이는 것들로부터 만들어진 것이 아닙니다.
4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God testifying with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had witness borne to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness in respect of his gifts: and through it he being dead yet speaketh.믿음으로 아벨은 가인보다 더 나은 제사를 하나님께 드렸고, 그 믿음을 통해 자신이 의로운 사람이라는 증거를 얻었습니다. 하나님께서 그의 예물에 대해 친히 증언해 주신 것입니다. 아벨은 죽었지만 그 믿음을 통해 여전히 말하고 있습니다.
5 By faith Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn’ t see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God translated him: for he hath had witness borne to him that before his translation he had been well-pleasing unto God:믿음으로 에녹은 죽음을 보지 않고 옮겨졌으며, 하나님께서 그를 데려가셨기 때문에 사람들이 그를 찾지 못했습니다. 그가 옮겨지기 전에 하나님을 기쁘시게 했다는 증거를 받았기 때문입니다.
6 Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.and without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 할 수 없습니다. 하나님께 나아가는 사람은 반드시 그분이 계신다는 것과, 그분을 찾는 사람들에게 상을 주시는 분이라는 것을 믿어야 합니다.
7 By faith Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared a ship for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.By faith Noah, being warned of God concerning things not seen as yet, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.믿음으로 노아는 아직 보이지 않는 일들에 대해 경고를 받고, 하나님을 경외하는 마음으로 자기 집을 구원할 방주를 마련했습니다. 그 믿음을 통해 그는 세상을 정죄하고, 믿음을 따라 얻는 의의 상속자가 되었습니다.

12 Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.wherefore also there sprang of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of heaven in multitude, and as the sand, which is by the sea-shore, innumerable.그래서 죽은 것이나 다름없는 한 사람에게서, 하늘의 별처럼 많고 바닷가의 모래처럼 셀 수 없는 자손이 태어났습니다.

14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.For they that say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their own.이렇게 말하는 사람들은 자기들이 본향을 찾고 있음을 분명히 드러내는 것입니다.
15 If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.And if indeed they had been mindful of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return.만일 그들이 떠나온 그 땅을 생각하고 있었다면, 돌아갈 기회가 충분히 있었을 것입니다.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. 17 By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his only born son,By faith Abraham, being tried, offered up Isaac: yea, he that had gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten son;믿음으로 아브라함은 시험을 받았을 때 이삭을 드렸습니다. 약속들을 기쁘게 받았던 그가 자기 외아들을 드리려 한 것입니다.
18 to whom it was said, “ Your offspring will be accounted as from Isaac,”even he to whom it was said, In Isaac shall thy seed be called:그에게는 "이삭에게서 난 사람을 네 후손이라 부를 것이다"라는 말씀이 있었습니다.
19 concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.accounting that God is able to raise up, even from the dead; from whence he did also in a figure receive him back.그는 하나님께서 죽은 사람들 가운데서도 살리실 수 있다고 믿었으며, 비유로 말하자면 그는 죽은 자 가운데서 이삭을 돌려받은 셈입니다.

31 By faith Rahab the prostitute didn’ t perish with those who were disobedient, having received the spies in peace.By faith Rahab the harlot perished not with them that were disobedient, having received the spies with peace.믿음으로 창녀 라합은 정탐꾼들을 평안히 맞아들였기 때문에, 순종하지 않은 사람들과 함께 망하지 않았습니다.
32 What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets —And what shall I more say? for the time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah; of David and Samuel and the prophets:내가 무슨 말을 더 하겠습니까? 기드온, 바락, 삼손, 입다, 다윗, 사무엘, 그리고 선지자들에 관해 이야기하자면 시간이 모자랄 것입니다.
33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,그들은 믿음으로 나라들을 정복하고, 의를 행하고, 약속하신 것을 받고, 사자들의 입을 막고,

They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated —they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword: they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated그들은 돌에 맞고, 톱으로 켜지고, 시험을 받고, 칼에 죽임을 당했습니다. 그들은 양가죽과 염소가죽을 걸치고 떠돌며, 궁핍과 고난과 학대를 당했습니다.

39 These all, having been commended for their faith, didn’ t receive the promise,And these all, having had witness borne to them through their faith, received not the promise,이 사람들은 모두 그 믿음으로 인정을 받았지만, 약속하신 것은 받지 못했습니다.
40 God having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.God having provided some better thing concerning us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.하나님께서 우리를 위해 더 좋은 것을 미리 마련해 두셨기에, 그들이 우리와 함께가 아니면 온전해지지 못하도록 하신 것입니다.
