1 Now Yahweh’s word came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,Now the word of Jehovah came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,여호와의 말씀이 아밋대의 아들 요나에게 임하여 이르셨다.
2 “ Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.”Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me."일어나 저 큰 성읍 니느웨로 가서 그곳을 향해 외쳐라. 그들의 악함이 내 앞에까지 올라왔기 때문이다."
3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh.But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah; and he went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah.그러나 요나는 여호와 앞을 피하여 다시스로 도망하려고 일어났다. 그는 욥바로 내려가 다시스로 가는 배를 발견하고는 뱃삯을 치르고 그 배에 올라, 여호와 앞을 떠나 사람들과 함께 다시스로 가려 하였다.
4 But Yahweh sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.But Jehovah sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.그러나 여호와께서 바다 위로 큰 바람을 보내셨고, 바다에 거센 폭풍이 일어 배가 부서질 지경이 되었다.
5 Then the mariners were afraid, and every man cried to his god. They threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone down into the innermost parts of the ship and he was laying down, and was fast asleep.Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god; and they cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it unto them. But Jonah was gone down into the innermost parts of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.그러자 뱃사람들은 두려워하여 저마다 자기 신에게 부르짖었고, 배를 가볍게 하려고 배에 실은 짐을 바다에 던졌다. 그러나 요나는 배 밑 깊은 곳으로 내려가 누워 깊이 잠들어 있었다.
6 So the ship master came to him, and said to him, “ What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God! Maybe your God will notice us, so that we won’t perish.”So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.그래서 선장이 그에게 와서 말하였다. "잠자는 자여, 어찌하여 이러고 있느냐? 일어나 네 하나님께 부르짖어라! 어쩌면 네 하나님이 우리를 돌아보셔서 우리가 망하지 않게 해 주실지도 모른다."
7 They all said to each other, “ Come! Let’s cast lots, that we may know who is responsible for this evil that is on us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.그들은 서로 말하였다. "자, 제비를 뽑아 우리에게 닥친 이 재앙이 누구 때문인지 알아보자." 그래서 제비를 뽑으니 그 제비가 요나에게 떨어졌다.
8 Then they asked him, “ Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your country? Of what people are you?”Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; what is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?그러자 그들이 그에게 물었다. "이 재앙이 누구 때문에 우리에게 닥쳤는지 부디 말해 다오. 네 직업은 무엇이며, 어디서 왔느냐? 네 나라는 어디고, 어느 민족에 속하였느냐?"
9 He said to them, “ I am a Hebrew, and I fear Yahweh, the God of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land.”And he said unto them, I am a Hebrew; and I fear Jehovah, the God of heaven, who hath made the sea and the dry land.그가 그들에게 대답하였다. "나는 히브리 사람이며, 바다와 육지를 지으신 하늘의 하나님 여호와를 경외하는 사람이오."
10 Then the men were exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “ What have you done?” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of Yahweh, because he had told them.Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, What is this that thou hast done? For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of Jehovah, because he had told them.그러자 그 사람들은 몹시 두려워하며 그에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 이런 일을 저질렀느냐?" 요나가 이미 그들에게 말해 주어, 그가 여호와 앞을 피하여 도망하는 줄을 그들이 알았기 때문이다.
11 Then they said to him, “ What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea grew more and more tempestuous.그들이 그에게 말하였다. "바다가 우리에게 잔잔해지려면 너를 어떻게 해야 하느냐?" 바다가 점점 더 거세지고 있었기 때문이다.
12 He said to them, “ Take me up, and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for you; for I know that because of me this great storm is on you.”And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.그가 그들에게 대답하였다. "나를 들어 바다에 던지시오. 그러면 바다가 당신들에게 잔잔해질 것이오. 이 큰 폭풍이 나 때문에 당신들에게 닥친 줄을 내가 알기 때문이오."
13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not, for the sea grew more and more stormy against them.Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not: for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.그런데도 그 사람들은 배를 육지로 돌리려고 힘껏 노를 저었으나 그럴 수 없었다. 바다가 그들을 거슬러 점점 더 거세졌기 때문이다.
14 Therefore they cried to Yahweh, and said, “ We beg you, Yahweh, we beg you, don’t let us die for this man’s life, and don’t lay on us innocent blood; for you, Yahweh, have done as it pleased you.”Wherefore they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We beseech thee, O Jehovah, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood; for thou, O Jehovah, hast done as it pleased thee.그래서 그들이 여호와께 부르짖어 말하였다. "여호와여, 간구하오니 부디 이 사람의 목숨 때문에 우리를 죽게 하지 마시고, 무죄한 피를 우리에게 돌리지 마소서. 여호와여, 주께서는 주의 뜻대로 행하셨나이다."
15 So they took up Jonah and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging.So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea; and the sea ceased from its raging.그러고는 요나를 들어 바다에 던졌더니, 바다가 성냄을 그쳤다.
16 Then the men feared Yahweh exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice to Yahweh and made vows.Then the men feared Jehovah exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice unto Jehovah, and made vows.그러자 그 사람들은 여호와를 몹시 경외하여, 여호와께 제사를 드리고 서원을 하였다.
17 Yahweh prepared a huge fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.And Jehovah prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.여호와께서 큰 물고기를 예비하여 요나를 삼키게 하시니, 요나가 사흘 낮 사흘 밤을 그 물고기 배 속에 있었다.
