1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men,I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men;그러므로 나는 무엇보다 먼저 권합니다. 모든 사람을 위하여 간구와 기도와 중보와 감사를 드리십시오.
2 for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence.for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.임금들과 높은 자리에 있는 모든 사람을 위해서도 그렇게 하십시오. 이는 우리가 모든 경건함과 거룩한 두려움 가운데서 평온하고 조용한 삶을 살게 하려는 것입니다.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;이것이 우리 구주 하나님께서 보시기에 선하고 받으실 만한 일입니다.
4 who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth.who would have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.하나님은 모든 사람이 구원을 받고 진리를 온전히 알게 되기를 원하십니다.
5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus,하나님은 한 분이시며, 하나님과 사람 사이의 중보자도 한 분이시니, 곧 사람이신 그리스도 예수이십니다.
6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony at the proper time,who gave himself a ransom for all; the testimony to be borne in its own times;그분은 모든 사람을 위해 자신을 대속물로 내어 주셨으니, 이는 정한 때에 증언될 증거입니다.
7 to which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle— I am telling the truth in Christ, not lying — a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.whereunto I was appointed a preacher and an apostle ( I speak the truth, I lie not ), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.나는 바로 이 증언을 위하여 전파하는 자와 사도로 세움을 받았고(나는 그리스도 안에서 진실을 말하며 거짓말하지 않습니다), 믿음과 진리로 이방 사람을 가르치는 교사가 되었습니다.
8 I desire therefore that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and doubting.I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.그러므로 나는 남자들이 어디서나 분노와 다툼 없이 거룩한 손을 들어 기도하기를 원합니다.
9 In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety, not with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing,In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment;이와 같이 여자들도 단정한 옷차림으로 정숙함과 단아함을 갖추어 자신을 꾸미되, 땋은 머리나 금이나 진주나 값비싼 옷으로 하지 마십시오.
10 but with good works, which is appropriate for women professing godliness.but ( which becometh women professing godliness ) through good works.도리어 경건을 고백하는 여자들에게 어울리게 선한 행실로 자신을 꾸미십시오.
11 Let a woman learn in quietness with full submission.Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection.여자는 온전히 순종하며 조용히 배우게 하십시오.
12 But I don’t permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness.But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness.나는 여자가 가르치거나 남자를 다스리는 권위를 행사하는 것을 허락하지 않으며, 오직 조용히 있게 하려 합니다.
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.For Adam was first formed, then Eve;이는 아담이 먼저 지음을 받고 그 다음에 하와가 지음을 받았기 때문입니다.
14 Adam wasn’ t deceived, but the woman, being deceived, has fallen into disobedience;and Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression:또 아담이 속은 것이 아니라, 여자가 속아서 죄에 빠졌습니다.
15 but she will be saved through her childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with sobriety.but she shall be saved through her child-bearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.그러나 여자는 자녀를 낳는 일을 통해 구원을 받을 것이니, 곧 절제함으로 믿음과 사랑과 거룩함 가운데 머물러 있으면 그렇습니다.
