1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope,Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope;우리 구원자이신 하나님과 우리의 소망이신 그리스도 예수의 명령을 따라 그리스도 예수의 사도가 된 바울이,
2 to Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.믿음 안에서 나의 참된 아들인 디모데에게 편지를 씁니다. 우리 아버지 하나님과 우리 주 그리스도 예수께서 주시는 은혜와 긍휼과 평강이 너에게 있기를 빕니다.
3 As I urged you when I was going into Macedonia, stay at Ephesus that you might command certain men not to teach a different doctrine,As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,내가 마케도니아로 떠날 때 너에게 부탁한 대로, 너는 에베소에 머물러 어떤 사람들이 다른 교훈을 가르치지 못하도록 명령하여라.
4 and not to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than God’s stewardship, which is in faith.neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; so do I now.또 그들이 꾸며 낸 이야기와 끝없는 족보에 매달리지 못하게 하여라. 그런 것들은 논쟁만 일으킬 뿐, 믿음 안에서 이루어지는 하나님의 경륜을 세우지 못한다.
5 But the goal of this command is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith,But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned:이 명령의 목적은 깨끗한 마음과 선한 양심과 거짓 없는 믿음에서 우러나오는 사랑이다.
6 from which things some, having missed the mark, have turned away to vain talking,from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking;그런데 어떤 이들은 이것을 벗어나, 빗나가서 헛된 말에 빠지고 말았다.
7 desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say nor about what they strongly affirm.desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm.그들은 율법의 교사가 되기를 원하지만, 자기가 무엇을 말하는지도 모르고, 무엇을 그토록 강하게 주장하는지도 알지 못한다.
8 But we know that the law is good if a person uses it lawfully,But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully,우리는 사람이 율법을 올바르게 사용하기만 하면 율법이 선하다는 것을 안다.
9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,곧 율법은 의로운 사람을 위해 세워진 것이 아니라, 법을 어기고 순종하지 않는 자들, 경건하지 않고 죄를 짓는 자들, 거룩하지 않고 속된 자들, 아버지를 죽이고 어머니를 죽이는 자들, 사람을 살해하는 자들을 위한 것임을 알아야 한다.
10 for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine,for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;또 음행하는 자들, 동성과 음란한 짓을 하는 자들, 사람을 사고파는 자들, 거짓말하는 자들, 거짓 맹세하는 자들, 그 밖에 건전한 교훈에 어긋나는 모든 자들을 위한 것이다.
11 according to the Good News of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.이것은 복되신 하나님의 영광스러운 복음을 따른 것이며, 그 복음은 내게 맡겨졌다.
12 I thank him who enabled me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to service,I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service;나에게 능력을 주신 우리 주 그리스도 예수께 나는 감사한다. 그분은 나를 신실하게 여겨 직분을 맡겨 주셨다.
13 although I used to be a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief;전에 나는 하나님을 모독하고 박해하며 폭력을 일삼던 사람이었다. 그러나 내가 믿지 않을 때 알지 못하고 한 일이었기에 긍휼을 입었다.
14 The grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.우리 주의 은혜가 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 믿음과 사랑과 함께 넘치도록 풍성하였다.
15 The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:"그리스도 예수께서 죄인을 구원하시려고 세상에 오셨다"는 이 말은 미쁘고 온전히 받아들일 만하다. 나는 그 죄인 가운데 첫째다.
16 However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life.howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.그러나 내가 긍휼을 입은 것은, 그리스도 예수께서 이 죄인의 첫째인 나에게 먼저 그 모든 오래 참으심을 보이셔서, 영원한 생명을 얻으려고 그분을 믿게 될 사람들에게 본이 되게 하시려는 것이었다.
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.영원하신 왕이시며, 죽지 않으시고, 보이지 않으시며, 홀로 지혜로우신 하나님께 영원무궁토록 존귀와 영광이 있기를 빕니다. 아멘.
18 I commit this instruction to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which were given to you before, that by them you may wage the good warfare,This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare;내 아들 디모데야, 전에 너를 가리켜 한 예언을 따라 내가 이 교훈을 너에게 맡긴다. 너는 그 예언을 의지하여 선한 싸움을 싸워라.
19 holding faith and a good conscience, which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith,holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith:믿음과 선한 양심을 지켜라. 어떤 이들은 이 양심을 저버려 믿음에 관해서 파선하고 말았다.
20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they might be taught not to blaspheme.of whom is Hymenæus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme.그 가운데 후메내오와 알렉산더가 있다. 나는 그들을 사탄에게 넘겨주어, 다시는 하나님을 모독하지 못하도록 가르침을 받게 하였다.
