1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.예수께서 그리스도이심을 믿는 사람은 누구나 하나님께로부터 태어난 사람입니다. 그리고 낳으신 아버지를 사랑하는 사람은 누구나 그분에게서 태어난 자녀도 사랑합니다.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments.우리가 하나님을 사랑하고 그분의 계명을 지킬 때에, 이로써 우리가 하나님의 자녀를 사랑하는 줄을 압니다.
3 For this is loving God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.하나님을 사랑한다는 것은 곧 그분의 계명을 지키는 것이기 때문입니다. 그리고 그분의 계명은 무거운 짐이 아닙니다.
4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith.하나님께로부터 태어난 사람은 누구나 세상을 이기기 때문입니다. 세상을 이긴 승리는 바로 이것이니, 곧 여러분의 믿음입니다.
5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?세상을 이기는 사람이 누구입니까? 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 사람이 아닙니까?
6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood.이분은 물과 피로 오신 분이시니, 곧 예수 그리스도이십니다. 물로만 오신 것이 아니라 물과 피로 오셨습니다. 그리고 증언하시는 분은 성령이시니, 성령은 진리이시기 때문입니다.
7 For there are three who testify:And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is the truth.증언하는 이가 셋이 있으니,
8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.For there are three who bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and the three agree in one.곧 성령과 물과 피입니다. 그리고 이 셋은 하나로 일치합니다.
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God’s testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for the witness of God is this, that he hath borne witness concerning his Son.우리가 사람들의 증언을 받아들인다면, 하나님의 증언은 그보다 더 큽니다. 이것이 곧 하나님께서 자기 아들에 관하여 친히 하신 증언이기 때문입니다.
10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn’ t believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in him: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he hath not believed in the witness that God hath borne concerning his Son.하나님의 아들을 믿는 사람은 그 증언을 자기 안에 가지고 있습니다. 하나님을 믿지 않는 사람은 하나님을 거짓말하는 분으로 만든 것이니, 하나님께서 자기 아들에 관하여 주신 증언을 믿지 않았기 때문입니다.
11 The testimony is this: that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.그 증언은 바로 이것이니, 곧 하나님께서 우리에게 영원한 생명을 주셨고, 이 생명이 그분의 아들 안에 있다는 것입니다.
12 He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’ t have God’ s Son doesn’ t have the life.He that hath the Son hath the life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life.아들을 모신 사람은 생명을 가지고 있고, 하나님의 아들을 모시지 못한 사람은 생명을 가지고 있지 못합니다.
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, even unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God.하나님의 아들의 이름을 믿는 여러분에게 이것들을 써 보내는 것은, 여러분이 영원한 생명을 가지고 있음을 알게 하고, 또 하나님의 아들의 이름을 계속 믿게 하려는 것입니다.
14 This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us:우리가 그분을 향하여 가지는 담대함은 이것이니, 곧 우리가 그분의 뜻을 따라 무엇이든 구하면 그분이 우리의 말을 들어주신다는 것입니다.
15 And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.그리고 우리가 무엇을 구하든지 그분이 들어주시는 줄을 안다면, 우리가 그분께 구한 것들을 이미 받은 줄도 압니다.
16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I don’ t say that he should make a request concerning this.If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say that he should make request.누구든지 자기 형제가 죽음에 이르지 않는 죄를 짓는 것을 보거든, 그가 구하면 하나님께서 죽음에 이르지 않는 죄를 지은 그에게 생명을 주실 것입니다. 죽음에 이르는 죄가 있으니, 이것에 관하여는 구하라고 말하지 않습니다.
17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.모든 불의가 죄이지만, 죽음에 이르지 않는 죄도 있습니다.
18 We know that whoever is born of God doesn’ t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’ t touch him.We know that whosoever is begotten of God sinneth not; but he that was begotten of God keepeth himself, and the evil one toucheth him not.우리는 하나님께로부터 태어난 사람은 누구나 죄를 짓지 않는 줄을 압니다. 하나님께로부터 태어난 그분이 그를 지켜 주시니, 악한 자가 그를 건드리지 못합니다.
19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one.우리는 우리가 하나님께 속한 줄을 알며, 온 세상은 악한 자의 세력 아래 놓여 있습니다.
20 We know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.우리는 하나님의 아들이 오셔서 우리에게 깨달음을 주셔서, 우리가 참되신 분을 알게 하신 줄을 압니다. 그리고 우리는 참되신 그분 안에, 곧 그분의 아들 예수 그리스도 안에 있습니다. 이분이 참 하나님이시요 영원한 생명이십니다.
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.My little children, guard yourselves from idols.자녀들이여, 여러분 자신을 우상들로부터 지키십시오.
