1 Beloved, don’ t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.사랑하는 여러분, 모든 영을 다 믿지 말고, 그 영들이 하나님께 속한 것인지 시험해 보십시오. 많은 거짓 선지자가 세상으로 나갔기 때문입니다.
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:여러분은 이것으로 하나님의 영을 알 수 있습니다. 예수 그리스도께서 육신으로 오셨음을 고백하는 영은 다 하나님께 속한 것이고,
3 and every spirit who doesn’ t confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God; and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already.and every spirit that confesseth not Jesus is not of God: and this is the spirit of the antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it cometh; and now it is in the world already.예수 그리스도께서 육신으로 오셨음을 고백하지 않는 영은 다 하나님께 속한 것이 아닙니다. 이것은 적그리스도의 영이니, 여러분이 그것이 온다고 들었던 바로 그것입니다. 그리고 이제 그것은 이미 세상에 와 있습니다.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.자녀 여러분, 여러분은 하나님께 속하였고, 그들을 이겼습니다. 여러분 안에 계신 분이 세상에 있는 자보다 크시기 때문입니다.
5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.They are of the world: therefore speak they as of the world, and the world heareth them.그들은 세상에 속하였습니다. 그러므로 그들은 세상에 속한 것을 말하고, 세상은 그들의 말을 듣습니다.
6 We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn’ t listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he who is not of God heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.우리는 하나님께 속하였습니다. 하나님을 아는 사람은 우리의 말을 듣고, 하나님께 속하지 않은 사람은 우리의 말을 듣지 않습니다. 우리는 이것으로 진리의 영과 미혹의 영을 분별합니다.
7 Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is begotten of God, and knoweth God.사랑하는 여러분, 우리가 서로 사랑합시다. 사랑은 하나님께 속한 것이니, 사랑하는 사람은 다 하나님에게서 났고 하나님을 압니다.
8 He who doesn’ t love doesn’ t know God, for God is love.He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.사랑하지 않는 사람은 하나님을 알지 못합니다. 하나님은 사랑이시기 때문입니다.
9 By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his only born Son into the world that we might live through him.Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him.하나님께서 자기 독생자를 세상에 보내셔서 우리로 그를 통해 살게 하셨으니, 이것으로 하나님의 사랑이 우리에게 나타났습니다.
10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.사랑은 여기에 있으니, 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니라 하나님께서 우리를 사랑하셔서 그 아들을 우리 죄를 위한 화목 제물로 보내신 것입니다.
11 Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.사랑하는 여러분, 하나님께서 이렇게 우리를 사랑하셨으니, 우리도 마땅히 서로 사랑해야 합니다.
12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us.No man hath beheld God at any time: if we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us:어느 누구도 하나님을 본 적이 없습니다. 우리가 서로 사랑하면 하나님께서 우리 안에 계시고, 그분의 사랑이 우리 안에서 온전해집니다.
13 By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.hereby we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.하나님께서 우리에게 자기 성령을 주셨으니, 우리는 이것으로 우리가 그분 안에 거하고 그분이 우리 안에 계심을 압니다.
14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world.And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.우리는 아버지께서 아들을 세상의 구주로 보내신 것을 보았고 또 증언합니다.
15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God.Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.누구든지 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 고백하면, 하나님께서 그 안에 계시고 그도 하나님 안에 거합니다.
16 We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.And we know and have believed the love which God hath in us. God is love; and he that abideth in love abideth in God, and God abideth in him.우리는 하나님께서 우리에게 베푸신 사랑을 알고 또 믿습니다. 하나님은 사랑이시니, 사랑 안에 거하는 사람은 하나님 안에 거하고 하나님도 그 안에 거하십니다.
17 In this, love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so we are in this world.Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world.사랑이 우리 가운데서 이렇게 온전해진 것은, 우리로 심판 날에 담대함을 갖게 하려는 것입니다. 그분이 그러하신 것처럼 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하기 때문입니다.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath punishment; and he that feareth is not made perfect in love.사랑 안에는 두려움이 없습니다. 온전한 사랑은 두려움을 내쫓습니다. 두려움에는 형벌이 따르기 때문입니다. 두려워하는 사람은 사랑 안에서 온전해지지 못한 사람입니다.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.We love, because he first loved us.우리가 사랑하는 것은 그분이 먼저 우리를 사랑하셨기 때문입니다.
20 If a man says, “ I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’ t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, cannot love God whom he hath not seen.누가 "내가 하나님을 사랑한다"고 하면서 자기 형제를 미워하면, 그는 거짓말쟁이입니다. 보이는 자기 형제를 사랑하지 않는 사람이 어떻게 보이지 않는 하나님을 사랑할 수 있겠습니까?
21 This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.And this commandment have we from him, that he who loveth God love his brother also.하나님을 사랑하는 사람은 자기 형제도 사랑해야 한다는 이 계명을, 우리는 그분에게서 받았습니다.
