1 My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:나의 자녀들아, 내가 이것들을 여러분에게 쓰는 것은 여러분이 죄를 짓지 않게 하려는 것입니다. 누구든지 죄를 지으면 우리에게는 아버지 앞에서 변호해 주시는 분, 곧 의로우신 예수 그리스도가 계십니다.
2 And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.그분은 우리의 죄를 위한 화목 제물이시며, 우리의 죄만이 아니라 온 세상의 죄를 위한 화목 제물이십니다.
3 This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.우리가 그분을 안다는 것을 이것으로 알 수 있으니, 곧 그분의 계명을 지키는 것입니다.
4 One who says, “ I know him,” and doesn’ t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’ t in him.He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;"나는 그분을 안다"라고 하면서도 그분의 계명을 지키지 않는 사람은 거짓말하는 사람이요, 그 안에 진리가 없습니다.
5 But God’s love has most certainly been perfected in whoever keeps his word. This is how we know that we are in him:but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily hath the love of God been perfected. Hereby we know that we are in him:그러나 누구든지 그분의 말씀을 지키면, 그 사람 안에서 하나님의 사랑이 참으로 온전해진 것입니다. 우리가 그분 안에 있다는 것을 이것으로 알 수 있습니다.
6 he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.그분 안에 머물러 있다고 말하는 사람은 그분이 걸으신 그대로 자신도 마땅히 걸어야 합니다.
7 Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.Beloved, no new commandment write I unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning: the old commandment is the word which ye heard.형제 여러분, 내가 여러분에게 쓰는 것은 새 계명이 아니라 여러분이 처음부터 가지고 있던 옛 계명입니다. 그 옛 계명은 여러분이 처음부터 들은 말씀입니다.
8 Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines.Again, a new commandment write I unto you, which thing is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shineth.그러나 내가 다시 여러분에게 새 계명을 씁니다. 이것은 그분 안에서도 여러분 안에서도 참된 것이니, 어둠이 지나가고 참빛이 이미 비치고 있기 때문입니다.
9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness even until now.He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother, is in the darkness even until now.빛 가운데 있다고 하면서 자기 형제를 미워하는 사람은 지금까지도 어둠 가운데 있는 사람입니다.
10 He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.자기 형제를 사랑하는 사람은 빛 가운데 머물러 있고, 그 안에는 걸려 넘어질 일이 없습니다.
11 But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’ t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.그러나 자기 형제를 미워하는 사람은 어둠 가운데 있고, 어둠 가운데 걸으며, 자기가 어디로 가는지 알지 못합니다. 어둠이 그의 눈을 멀게 했기 때문입니다.
12 I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.I write unto you, my little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.자녀들아, 내가 여러분에게 쓰는 것은 그분의 이름으로 인하여 여러분의 죄가 용서받았기 때문입니다.
13 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.I write unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil one. I have written unto you, little children, because ye know the Father.아버지들이여, 내가 여러분에게 쓰는 것은 여러분이 처음부터 계신 분을 알기 때문입니다. 청년들이여, 내가 여러분에게 쓰는 것은 여러분이 악한 자를 이겼기 때문입니다. 자녀들아, 내가 여러분에게 쓰는 것은 여러분이 아버지를 알기 때문입니다.
14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.I have written unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the evil one.아버지들이여, 내가 여러분에게 쓴 것은 여러분이 처음부터 계신 분을 알기 때문입니다. 청년들이여, 내가 여러분에게 쓴 것은 여러분이 강하고, 하나님의 말씀이 여러분 안에 머물러 있으며, 여러분이 악한 자를 이겼기 때문입니다.
15 Don’ t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’ t in him.Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.세상도, 세상에 있는 것들도 사랑하지 마십시오. 누구든지 세상을 사랑하면 그 안에 아버지의 사랑이 없습니다.
16 For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life —isn’ t the Father’s, but is the world’s.For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vainglory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.세상에 있는 모든 것, 곧 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 삶의 자랑은 아버지께로부터 온 것이 아니라 세상으로부터 온 것입니다.
17 The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.세상도 그 정욕도 다 지나가지만, 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 사람은 영원히 머물러 있습니다.
18 Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.Little children, it is the last hour: and as ye heard that antichrist cometh, even now have there arisen many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last hour.자녀들아, 지금은 마지막 때입니다. 적그리스도가 온다고 여러분이 들은 것같이, 지금도 많은 적그리스도가 일어났습니다. 이것으로 우리는 지금이 마지막 때임을 압니다.
19 They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they all are not of us.그들은 우리에게서 나갔으나 우리에게 속한 자들이 아니었습니다. 만일 그들이 우리에게 속했더라면 우리와 함께 머물러 있었을 것입니다. 그러나 그들이 나간 것은 그들이 다 우리에게 속하지 않았음을 드러내려는 것이었습니다.
20 You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.And ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and ye know all things.여러분은 거룩하신 분께로부터 기름 부으심을 받았고, 여러분 모두 지식을 가지고 있습니다.
21 I have not written to you because you don’ t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and because no lie is of the truth.내가 여러분에게 쓴 것은 여러분이 진리를 몰라서가 아니라, 여러분이 진리를 알고 있고 또 어떤 거짓도 진리에서 나지 않기 때문입니다.
22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.Who is the liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, even he that denieth the Father and the Son.예수가 그리스도이심을 부인하는 자가 아니면 누가 거짓말하는 자이겠습니까? 아버지와 아들을 부인하는 그가 바로 적그리스도입니다.
23 Whoever denies the Son doesn’ t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that confesseth the Son hath the Father also.누구든지 아들을 부인하는 사람은 아버지도 모시지 못하지만, 아들을 시인하는 사람은 아버지도 모십니다.
24 Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.As for you, let that abide in you which ye heard from the beginning. If that which ye heard from the beginning abide in you, ye also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father.그러므로 여러분은 처음부터 들은 것을 여러분 안에 머물게 하십시오. 처음부터 들은 것이 여러분 안에 머물러 있으면, 여러분도 아들 안에, 그리고 아버지 안에 머물게 될 것입니다.
25 This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.And this is the promise which he promised us, even the life eternal.그분이 우리에게 약속하신 약속은 바로 이것, 곧 영원한 생명입니다.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.These things have I written unto you concerning them that would lead you astray.내가 이것들을 여러분에게 쓴 것은 여러분을 미혹하려는 자들에 관한 것입니다.
27 As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’ t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.And as for you, the anointing which ye received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any one teach you; but as his anointing teacheth you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, ye abide in him.여러분으로 말하면, 그분께로부터 받은 기름 부으심이 여러분 안에 머물러 있으니, 누가 여러분을 가르칠 필요가 없습니다. 오히려 그분의 기름 부으심이 모든 것에 관하여 여러분을 가르치며, 그것은 참되고 거짓이 없습니다. 그것이 여러분을 가르친 그대로 여러분은 그분 안에 머물러 있을 것입니다.
28 Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness and not be ashamed before him at his coming.And now, my little children, abide in him; that, if he shall be manifested, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.이제 자녀들아, 그분 안에 머물러 있으십시오. 그래야 그분이 나타나실 때에 우리가 담대함을 얻고, 그분이 오실 때에 그분 앞에서 부끄러움을 당하지 않을 것입니다.
29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one also that doeth righteousness is begotten of him.여러분이 그분이 의로우신 줄을 알면, 의를 행하는 사람마다 그분에게서 난 줄도 알 것입니다.
