( 1 Chronicles 6:33 (18)); the Revised Version (British and American) Samuel, the prophet (see SAMUEL ); compare Gray, HPN , 200, note 3): (1) The Simeonite appointed to assist in the division of the land (Numbers 34:20 ). The Massoretic Text should be emended to שׁלמיאל , shelumı̄'ēl , to correspond with the form found in Numbers 1:6; Numbers 2:12; Numbers 7:36 , Numbers 7:41; Numbers 10:19 . Septuagint has uniformly Σαλαμιήλ , Salamiḗl . (2) Grandson of Issachar (1 Chronicles 7:2 ) (Codex Vaticanus Ἰσαμουήλ , Isamouḗl ; Codex Alexandrinus and Lucian, Σαμουήλ , Samouḗl ).
