3 I thank God, whom I serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience. How unceasing is my memory of you in my petitions, night and dayI thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers in a pure conscience, how unceasing is my remembrance of thee in my supplications, night and day나는 내 조상들이 그랬듯이 깨끗한 양심으로 섬기는 하나님께 감사한다. 내가 기도할 때에 밤낮으로 쉬지 않고 너를 기억하며,
4 longing to see you, remembering your tears, that I may be filled with joy;longing to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;네 눈물을 기억하면서 너를 보기를 간절히 바라니, 이는 내가 기쁨으로 가득 차게 하려 함이다.
5 having been reminded of the sincere faith that is in you, which lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, in you also.having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also.네 안에 있는 진실한 믿음을 내가 다시 떠올린다. 이 믿음은 먼저 네 외할머니 로이스와 네 어머니 유니게 안에 살아 있었고, 이제 네 안에도 있음을 나는 확신한다.
6 For this cause, I remind you that you should stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.For which cause I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee through the laying on of my hands.그러므로 내가 네게 일깨우노니, 내 안수로 말미암아 네 안에 있는 하나님의 은사를 다시 불일듯 일으키라.
7 For God didn’ t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.하나님께서 우리에게 주신 것은 두려움의 영이 아니라 능력과 사랑과 절제의 영이다.
8 Therefore don’ t be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but endure hardship for the Good News according to the power of God,Be not ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God;그러므로 너는 우리 주를 증언하는 것을 부끄러워하지 말고, 주의 갇힌 자 된 나를 부끄러워하지도 말라. 오직 하나님의 능력을 따라 복음을 위해 고난을 함께 견디라.
9 who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,하나님께서 우리를 구원하시고 거룩한 부르심으로 불러 주셨으니, 이는 우리의 행위를 따른 것이 아니라 그분 자신의 뜻과 은혜를 따른 것이다. 이 은혜는 영원한 때 이전에 그리스도 예수 안에서 우리에게 주신 것이며,
10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Good News.but hath now been manifested by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,이제 우리 구주 그리스도 예수께서 나타나심으로 드러났다. 그분은 죽음을 폐하시고 복음을 통하여 생명과 썩지 아니함을 환히 밝히셨다.
11 For this I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.whereunto I was appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher.이 복음을 위하여 나는 선포자와 사도와 이방 사람의 교사로 세움을 받았다.
12 For this cause I also suffer these things. Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed unto him against that day.이런 까닭에 내가 이 고난을 당하지만, 그래도 부끄러워하지 않는다. 이는 내가 믿는 분을 알며, 또한 그분이 내가 그분께 맡긴 것을 그날까지 지키실 수 있음을 확신하기 때문이다.
13 Hold the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.너는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 믿음과 사랑으로, 네가 내게서 들은 바른 말씀의 본을 굳게 지키라.
14 That good thing which was committed to you, guard through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.That good thing which was committed unto thee guard through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us.네게 맡겨진 그 선한 것을, 우리 안에 거하시는 성령으로 말미암아 지키라.
15 This you know, that all who are in Asia turned away from me, of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.This thou knowest, that all that are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.아시아에 있는 모든 이가 나를 떠난 것을 너는 안다. 그 가운데에 부겔로와 허모게네가 있다.
16 May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain,The Lord grant mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;주께서 오네시보로의 집에 긍휼을 베푸시기를 바란다. 그는 자주 나를 격려하여 주었고, 내가 사슬에 매인 것을 부끄러워하지 않았으며,
17 but when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently and found mebut, when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me로마에 있을 때에 나를 부지런히 찾아 마침내 만났기 때문이다.
18 ( the Lord grant to him to find the Lord’ s mercy in that day ); and in how many things he served at Ephesus, you know very well.( the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day ); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.(주께서 그날에 그로 하여금 주의 긍휼을 얻게 하시기를 바란다.) 또 그가 에베소에서 얼마나 많은 일로 섬겼는지 너는 아주 잘 안다.
