1 Therefore when we couldn’t stand it any longer, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone,Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone;그래서 우리는 더 이상 참을 수 없어, 우리만 아테네에 남기로 하는 것이 좋겠다고 생각했습니다.
2 and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s servant in the Good News of Christ, to establish you and to comfort you concerning your faith,and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s minister in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith;그리고 우리 형제이며 그리스도의 복음을 전하는 일에 하나님의 일꾼인 디모데를 보내, 여러분을 굳게 세우고 여러분의 믿음에 관하여 위로하게 했습니다.
3 that no one would be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task.that no man be moved by these afflictions; for yourselves know that hereunto we are appointed.이는 아무도 이런 환난으로 흔들리지 않게 하려는 것입니다. 우리가 이 일을 위해 세움받았다는 것을 여러분 자신이 알기 때문입니다.
4 For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.For verily, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction; even as it came to pass, and ye know.우리가 여러분과 함께 있을 때, 우리가 환난을 당하게 될 것이라고 미리 분명히 말해 두었는데, 과연 그대로 되었고 여러분도 알고 있습니다.
5 For this cause I also, when I couldn’ t stand it any longer, sent that I might know your faith, for fear that by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor would have been in vain.For this cause I also, when I could no longer forbear, sent that I might know your faith, lest by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor should be in vain.이런 까닭에 나도 더 이상 참을 수 없어, 여러분의 믿음을 알아보려고 사람을 보냈습니다. 혹시 시험하는 자가 어떤 식으로든 여러분을 시험하여 우리의 수고가 헛되지 않을까 염려했기 때문입니다.
6 But Timothy has just now come to us from you, and brought us glad news of your faith and love, and that you have good memories of us always, longing to see us, even as we also long to see you.But when Timothy came even now unto us from you, and brought us glad tidings of your faith and love, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, longing to see us, even as we also to see you;그러나 이제 디모데가 여러분에게서 우리에게 돌아와, 여러분의 믿음과 사랑에 관한 반가운 소식을 전해 주었습니다. 또 여러분이 언제나 우리를 좋게 기억하며, 우리가 여러분을 간절히 보고 싶어 하듯이 여러분도 우리를 간절히 보고 싶어 한다고 전해 주었습니다.
7 For this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith.for this cause, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith:그러므로 형제들이여, 우리는 온갖 곤경과 환난 가운데서도 여러분의 믿음으로 인해 여러분에 대하여 위로를 받았습니다.
8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.for now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.여러분이 주 안에서 굳게 서 있다면, 이제 우리는 사는 것입니다.
9 For what thanksgiving can we give again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God,For what thanksgiving can we render again unto God for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;우리가 우리 하나님 앞에서 여러분으로 인해 누리는 이 모든 기쁨을 두고, 여러분 때문에 하나님께 무슨 감사를 다시 드릴 수 있겠습니까?
10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?우리는 밤낮으로 더없이 간절히 기도합니다. 여러분의 얼굴을 다시 보고, 여러분의 믿음에 부족한 것을 채워 줄 수 있기를 말입니다.
11 Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way unto you:이제 우리 하나님 아버지께서 친히, 또 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 우리의 길을 여러분에게로 인도해 주시기를 바랍니다.
12 May the Lord make you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all men, even as we also do toward you,and the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we also do toward you;또 우리가 여러분을 사랑하는 것처럼, 주께서 여러분도 서로 간에, 또 모든 사람을 향하여 사랑이 더욱 자라고 넘치게 해 주시기를 바랍니다.
13 to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.to the end he may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.그리하여 우리 주 예수께서 그분의 모든 거룩한 자들과 함께 오실 때에, 여러분의 마음을 우리 하나님 아버지 앞에서 거룩함 가운데 흠 없이 굳게 세워 주시기를 바랍니다.
