ked´ḗ - moth , kḗ - dē´moth ( קדמות , ḳedhēmōth , "eastern parts"): From the wilderness to which this town gave its name, Moses sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites in Heshbon ( Deuteronomy 2:26 ). It was given by Moses to the tribe of Reuben (Joshua 13:18 ), and assigned to the Merarite Levites (Joshua 21:37; 1 Chronicles 6:79 ). It must probably be sought on the upper course of the Arnon. Buhl (GAP , 268) suggests that it may be identified with Umm er -Reṣāṣ . See JAHAZ .
