3. tops of . . . houses —flat; places of resort for prayer, c., in the East ( :- ). weeping abundantly —"melting away in tears." HORSLEY prefers "descending to weep." Thus there is a "parallelism by alternate construction" [LOWTH], or chiasmus "howl" refers to "tops of houses."
