He followed Terah, Abram and Sarai from Ur of the Chaldeans to Canaan. They settled in Haran.

When the Lord told Abram to go away from Haran, Lot went with him. They went to Canaan, Moreh at Shechem, Bethel, somewhere in the middle of Bethel and Ai, Negev and Egypt in that order. After a while, they were sent out of Egypt

From Egypt they went to the Negev and then again to Bethel to the place between Bethel and Ai, where he had been before. From this time it is reported, that Lot was very rich and had flockes and herds and tents. Because Lot and Abram together had so much, the land could not support them both. Because of this, a quarelling arose between Abram's and Lot's herdsmen. So they decided to separate and Lot decided to live in the plain of the Jordan towards the east of Bethel and Ai. He built his tent near Sodom.

In a war, Lot was carried away from Sodom by the king Kedorlaomer. Abram then came to rescue Lot. After this, he lived in Sodom again. When Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, Lot was saved because he showed a lot of hospitality towards the two angels. While Lot, his wife and his two daughters were running away, his wife looked back and was converted into a pillar of salt. His two daughters then made Lot drunk and had sex with him in order to ensure that his name continues to live. So Lot has two sons from his two daughters, called Moab and Ben-Ammi.
